The Foran Prayer Leaflets

+
JMJ

I have often wondered about the Foran family. Thanks to the internet, now I know.

Mr. Frank M. Foran passed away April 12, 1988.

Frank M. Foran, 75, a funeral director in Summit for 50 years, was the founder of the Frank M. Foran Funeral Home there. He served for 35 years on the Argo-Summit-Bedford Park School Board.
Mass for Mr. Foran, a resident of Palos Hills, will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 8243 W. 111th St., Palos Hills. He died at home Monday. ...

... In 1958, he was founding president of the Catholic Funeral Directors Guild.
''He was an extremely friendly, outgoing person,'' said his son, Michael. ''He was also very Irish, so much so that he visited Ireland 7 times in the last 15 years and became a naturalized citizen of that country.''
Survivors, besides his son, include his wife, Jeanette; two daughters, Mary Sodetz and Margaret; and a sister.

Mrs. Foran  passed away April 25, 2009

Extremely devoted to Sacred Heart and the distribution of prayers throughout the world.

Chicago Tribure: Jeanette A. Foran

They appear to have distributed  a number of prayer leaflets over the decades.  I came across the following during my searches. (source)

PRAYER TO MARY
I put my little babe under your protection, Mary my Mother. Make it’s tiny mind grow up to love the truths of the faith; consecrate its will to the service of God; fill its heart with love for its Creator, Fashion its little body in all perfection: let its organs be sound, its senses acute, all its members strong and healthy. You can obtain this favor for me and my child most powerful Mother. I put my trust in you. Amen

Extraordinary; so good to see what they looked like. I have a prayer card with the Prayer for Daily Neglects on one side and the evening prayer of St. Augustine on the other. It is a true blessing. May their souls RIP I always pray a Hail Mary for their children and grandchildren every time after I pray with the card, per her request.

  2. I have a leaflet titled

    Tremendous Value of Holy Mass

at the hour of death, the holy masses you have heard devoutly will be your greatest consolation.
Every Mass will go with you to judgment and will plead for pardon for you.
By every Mass, you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins, more or less, according to your fervour.
by devoutly assisting at Holy Mass, you render the greatest homage possible to the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord.
Through the Holy Sacrifice, our Lord Jesus Christ supplies for many of your negligence and omissions. He forgives you all the sins which you are determined to avoid. He forgives you all your unknown sins, which you never confessed. The power of Satan over you is diminished.
Piously hearing holy mass, you afford the souls in purgatory the greatest possible relief.
One holy mass heard during your life will be of more benefit to you than many heard for you after your death.
Through holy mass, you are preserved from many dangers and misfortunes, which would otherwise have be fallen you. You shorten your purgatory by every mass.
During holy mass you kneel with a multitude of holy angels, who are present at the adorable sacrifice with Reverential awe.
Through holy mass, you are blessed in your temporary goods and affairs
when you hear Holy mass devoutly offering to Almighty God in honor of any particular St or Angelle thanking God for the favors bestowed on him, etc., etc. you afford that St or Angelle a new degree of honor, joy and happiness and draw his special love and protection on yourself. Every time you assist at Holy mass besides other intentions, you should offer it in honor of the saint of the day.
this leaflet was found in a copy of “my Catholic faith“ a catechism that I ordered so that my adult son could learn the true catechism that was not taught to him in the post Vatican to church claiming to be Catholic. I will pray for the Forans foreign family.
this leaflet will be a tremendous help to me and my family. God bless and Mary keep you.

SSPX and the Resistance - A Comparison Of Ecclesiology

Shining the light of Church Teaching on the doctrinal positions of the SSPX and the Resistance. Principles are guides used to aid in decision making.  It stands to reason that bad principles will lead to bad decisions. The recent interactions between Rome and the SSPX has challenged a number of closely held cultural assumptions of people in both sides of the disagreement. This has resulted in cultural skirmishes in both Rome and the SSPX. Since it is the smaller of the two, the skirmishes have been more evident within the SSPX.  The cultural fault-line that Bishop Fellay crossed appears to be linked to two points of Catholic Doctrine: Ecclesiology and Obedience.  The cultural difference of view points is strong enough that it has resulted in the expulsion of a number of members.  It should also be noted that some other priests expelled since the beginning of the latest interactions (starting in 2000) held the same view points and have joined with the l...

A Reply to Martin Blackshaw’s FLAWED Remnant article titled: FLAWED: SSPX Advice on Abortion-tainted Vaccines

+ JMJ    An article has appeared in the Remnant (link to article) and I am afraid that there are a number of flaws in it that need to be addressed. The author, Martin Blackshaw, believes that both the Church and the SSPX are misapplying the principle of Moral Theology called 'Cooperation In Evil'.  Unfortunately, Mr. Blackshaw rests most of his arguments on citing authors that support his position, without considering the possibility that they are wrong. This highlights a key factor in this crisis: ignorance of the faith and its application . I don't am not singling out Mr. Blackshaw for this criticism, I have observed that it applies to laity and religious, superior and subject a like.  No one seems immune in this enduring crisis, myself included.  I further believe that this ignorance is why so many Catholics, both traditional and non, rely on their gut feeling or "Catholic conscience" for charting their way through this crisis of the faith.  While...

Rome and the SSPX - the latest

+ JMJ Bishop Fellay gave a conference late last month and provided some more insight into the situation with Rome. There are comments on Deus Ex Machina Blog  and Hilary White has now entered the fray. What is one Catholic to think about all these opinions? What a Catholic is to think: With the Church! What does the Church think about obedience?  Virtue as it is? If there is no proximate occasion of sin and the other conditions are met, then one cannot resist the command.

Unhinged Catholics ... are they on the right path? How would you know? (Updated 2x with Response to Comments)

+ JMJ (Originally Published Sept 7, 2019, Updated July 30, 2022, Updated August 13, 2022)  Based on Pope Francis' latest selections for Cardinals, the Church appears to be in deep winter. Just to be clear, I don't mean a Florida winter, I mean a Canadian winter.  In the last 35+ years as a Trad, I've seen my fair share of Catholics suffering from, and dying of, mental and spiritual hypothermia. When a Catholic pours themselves into the 'fight', neglects their spiritual life, doesn't deepen their understanding of the Catholic Faith, then there is a good chance that they will become embittered, frustrated, and angry. With their narrowed perspectives they risk being blindsided and smacked in the head with a metaphorical 2x4. Just look at the headlines on canon212 for some examples. THE NOVA VULGATA: Has the Vatican Officially Ditched St. Jerome’s Vulgate? - The Remnant

+ JMJ The hits keep on coming. My touchstone for assessing whether or not a bible translation is suspect is Luke 1:28.  I usually compare it to three handy references: The Vulgate, Douay and Knox translations. ( http://catholicbible.online/side_by_side/NT/Lk ) Here's the vulgate: Et ingressus angelus ad eam dixit: Ave gratia plena: Dominus tecum: benedicta tu in mulieribus. Here's the Douay: And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. Here's the Knox: Into her presence the angel came, and said, Hail, thou who art full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women. Now, here we have the Nova Vulgata  (including the preceding and following verse): 27 ad virginem desponsatam viro, cui nomen erat Ioseph de domo David, et nomen virginis Maria. 28 Et ingressus ad eam dixit: “ Ave, gratia plena, Dominus tecum ”. 29 Ipsa autem turbata est in sermone eius et cog...
