 + JMJ  Ten years ago on April 15, 2012, the SSPX provided Rome with it's Doctrinal Preamble. Originally, Pope Benedict was reported to be satisfied with it and the SSPX expected to reach an agreement. However, something changed and the subsequent meeting did not go as expected. I repost this blog for two reasons. First the anniversary and second because there appears to be some misunderstanding of what the SSPX believes vis-a-vis Vatican II etc. I understand that Bishop Fellay noted that this preamble represents the extreme limit of what the SSPX can accept. As noted by Bishop Fellay (then SSPX superior general), not one word can be changed if Rome wanted an agreement. P^3  P.S. Courtesy of FSSPX.news At the close of its General Chapter, the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X calls to mind the importance and timeliness of the declaration made by its founder, Marcel Lefebvre, on November 21, 1974.  More than fifty years of the Church’s “self-destruction” allow one fully to appreciate the soundness of that declaration , which the Society embraces in its entirety: “We hold fast, with all our heart and with all our soul, to Catholic Rome, Guardian of the Catholic Faith and of the traditions necessary to preserve this faith, to Eternal Rome, Mistress of wisdom and truth. (…) No authority, not even the highest in the hierarchy, can force us to abandon or diminish our Catholic Faith, so clearly expressed and professed by the Church’s Magisterium for twenty centuries. (…) That is why we hold fast to all that has been believed and practiced in the faith, morals...

+ JMJ In 1974, Archbishop Lefebvre issued a declaration  that could be considered the beginning of the confrontation with Rome. There are reports that something positive may happen tomorrow in the relations between Rome and the SSPX. Continue praying! P^3

+ JMJ The Year 2012 was tumultuous for the SSPX as it appeared that Rome was willing to accept the SSPX as they are and as they are doing (quoting Archbishop Lefebvre). This did not sit well with the modernists (aka Kasper et al), the Sedevacantists (within the SSPX) and the semi-Sedevacantists (Bishop Williamson et al, Fr. Pfeiffer et al). Out of this crisis came clarity of direction and principles. As the principles are Catholic, the actions will be good. As the Sedevacantists and 'resistors', by necessity have to abandon the same principles, their actions will be objectively evil. Which principles do I have in mind? These ... P^3

+ JMJ The SSPX declarations are but milestones on the road that the SSPX and an aid to see "where we've been". At this "midway" point between the events of 2012, the desire of the SSPX to act for the good of the Church as a whole is manifest. This is not about us, this is about the Church. P^3

+ JMJ Considered by many to be the rubicon moment for Archbishop Lefebvre when he felt compelled, in the face of scandalous statements made by the visitors, to make clear his position vis-a-vis the implementation of the Second Vatican Council and the reforms that issued from it. + JMJ Reproduced below are the Doctrinal Preamble of Bishop Fellay (2012) and Protocol of Archbishop Lefebvre (1988) for comparison. Perhaps when I have time I will add detailed commentary.  Now, given that Archbishop Lefebvre stated that there was nothing wrong with the 1988 text of the protocol, comparing it with that of Bishop Fellay ... where's the problem? Are as  Kaesekopf of Suscipedomine wrote : ...can someone explain why trads would reject this? Or rather, why a sedeplenist trad (who accepts the validity of the NO) would reject this?  Update: To make a comparison easier,  I have inserted the comparable elements of the Protocol developed by Archbishop Lefebvre with that of Bishop Fellay.  I have also included my own commentary in blue . Courtesy of DICI 27-06-2013 Filed under  Documents During the Pontifical High Mass celebrated in honour of the 25 th  anniversary of the episcopal consecrations, Bishop Bernard Fellay read the declaration signed by the bishops of the Society of St. Pius X, which he introduced in these words: If we are assembled here together today, it is to thank the good God, firstly for the action taken here already twenty-five years ago by our venerated founder, Archbishop Lefebvre, together with Bishop de Castro Mayer: the episcopal consecrations, which the Archbishop called at the time “Operation Survival”. Looking back over these twenty-five years we can see now to what extent his words not only were, but indeed are true. And so our thanksgiving, our gratitude to the Archbishop, to Divine Providence and to all its instruments is very great today.
