Lumen Gentium 16, Cognitive Dissonance and Making Distinctions

+ JMJ  I once had an argument on Ignis Ardens with Catholicam (link: Cognitive Dissonance ) that took issue with Lumen Gentium 16 - particularly the distinction that Muslims "adore the one and merciful God" and "professing to hold the faith of Abraham". Below is an annotated version of Lumen Gentium 16.  16. Finally, those who have not yet received the Gospel are related in various ways to the people of God.(18*)  In the first place we must recall the people to whom the testament and the promises were given [Tradicat: Jewish People] and from whom Christ was born according to the flesh.(125) On account of their fathers this people remains most dear to God, for God does not repent of the gifts He makes nor of the calls He issues.(126)  But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator. In the first place amongst these there are the Muslims , who, professing to hold the faith of Abraham, along with us adore the one and merciful God, who on...

FSSPX.News: Two Belgian Bishops Sentenced for Refusing to Train a Woman for the Diaconate

+ JMJ  This seems to simply be a fruit of the Second Vatican Council - i.e. religious liberty is subject to the Rights of Man ... or in this case Woman. P^3   Courtesy of FSSPX.News:  Two Belgian Bishops Sentenced for Refusing to Train a Woman for the Diaconate   Two Belgian Bishops Sentenced for Refusing to Train a Woman for the Diaconate July 7, 2024 Source: FSSPX News Archbishop Luc Terlinden The civil court of Mechelen has fined the former Archbishop of Mechelen-Brussel, Cardinal Jozef De Kesel, and his successor, Archbishop Luc Terlinden, for discrimination. The two bishops had refused, a few months apart, the enrollment of a woman in training for the diaconate, for the reason that she cannot r...

Imaginary Modern Catholic Baptismal Exorcisms

+ JMJ    This is a reblog of a note I posted in April 2023 in A List of Articles with Tradicat's Quick Comments . It is a good example of changes that happened elsewhere in the Catholic Rituals. As you can read below, the change is significant, explicit and fairly incredible.  In other words, I fail to see how something can be called an exorcism that doesn't explicitly say what the priest it doing - which is ordering the unclean spirit(s) to depart.   P^3   I was at a meeting where a Catholic Diocesan Priest claimed that the exorcisms remain in the modern ritual of baptism.  A quick review of the current and previous rites makes it obvious that what is presented as an "exorcism", is actually just a narrative.   In 1964, the words were explicit and meant what was said. In the new liturgy, the word exorcism is a label but there is no content.  It is bland. So ... looking at the Rituale Romanum (1964) we read:   Depart from him (her...

Where is the Catholic Church???

+ JMJ  The Four Marks of the Church define the visibility of the Catholic Church ... the Church Of Christ.  Our Lord Jesus Christ did NOT found the Luthern's, Baptists, Anglicans etc.  They may have taken with them some of the Sacraments (Marriage, Baptism).  So if we interpret these vestigial elements being active ex opere operato, then you can say that the Catholic Church operates on a one-to-one basis.  If these people meet the qualification (4 points) they can achieve salvation, but it is not because of what their religions teach on their own (ie heretical or schismatic) that they will be saved. For some clear perspectives I have attached a link to the Vatican 'clarification' and the SSPX article on this topic. Rorate-Caeil: Amazon Synod - Various articles.

+ JMJ So the exhortation has been published and is not as bad as feared, but perhaps it remains bad. I have collected a number of articles from Rorate. Time allowing I'll search more and form my own opinion. P^3 BREAKING — On the Amazon Synod document, let’s remain positive Rorate-Caeli: On the Amazon Synod Document, let's remain positive Rorate has learned that, at the current state of the text, Catholics should remain positive regarding the most controversial points of the post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation “Querida Amazonia”, to be published tomorrow. We cannot say anything, unfortunately, but we refer readers to the first paragraph of this post we published last week: La Fede Quotidiana  has learned of an important fact relating to the coming papal document on the subject of the Amazon. And this fact, unless modified at the last moment, contradicts what has been recently reported concerning a text in which  ‘ a yes ’  is given to...

Catholic Family News: Natural Family Planning: Assessing a Touchy Subject in Light of Tradition

+ JMJ This is definitely a controversial topic, so I'll let CFN present it! P^3 Courtesy of Catholic Family News ***** Following the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in 1917, Jacinta Marto, the youngest of the three child seers, related something very significant to one of her caregivers shortly before her death in 1920: “My dear Mother [Godinho], the sins that bring most souls to Hell are the sins of the flesh.” [1] This is not because “sins of the flesh” (i.e. sins against chastity) are necessarily the gravest, but because they are the most common and most unrepented of mortal sins. Our post-Christian world, which is growing more and more explicitly anti-Christian by the day, has normalized sins against the Sixth and Ninth Commandments to an incredible degree. Masturbation and pornography use, homosexual acts, fornication, and even adultery are no longer quietly tolerated but actively promoted as healthy and “normal”. Blatantly sinful sexual acts of this kind...
