The News is an Addiction ...

 +

JMJ

People seem to be mesmerised by train wrecks.

They just can't turn away as the disaster creeps forward along train tracks towards the crossing where a car, truck, bus, trailer awaits its destruction.

Trads have been watching the train wreck that is this crisis of the Catholic Church for decades.

The trade war between the Canada and the US has reminded me that the news is addictive.

The first time I was addicted what from 2009 to  2014 when I was closely following the Rome / SSPX discussions.  I was at work watching a live-stream as Bishop Fellay disappeared into the Vatican. The lead-up to this moment had been intense as the 'resistance' got freaked out and the cultural cracks between doctrine and conspiracy theory widened.

In the decade since then other things have emerged, wars, rumours of wars, conspiracies, celebrity Catholics etc.

Now we have a new addiction and its name is Trump.

Lately, no matter how much I try, I find myself wondering what craziness Trump has pumped out while I slept. The news cycle is doing what it does - keep me / people in a heightened state of anxiety and distraction from what we should be doing.

So that's what I will do ... I will focus on MY:

  • Duty of state,
  • area of responsibility,
  • family,
  • and Church.
It really isn't that hard.

Of course, I will still be posting here as the occasion arises.

Thoughts on the FSSP Perspectives On the SSPX Situation

+ JMJ  Perspectives – FSSP vs SSPX In August, Fr. Debow (FSSP) of Holy Family Parish in Vancouver, B.C. wrote two letters on the SSPX “situation”. Obviously, Father is writing from the FSSP perspective and some elements are simply repeating what he’s been taught in seminary by the founders of the FSSP. In other words, they don’t truthfully reflect the position of the SSPX or, I feel, make the necessary distinctions. Father’s key points I noted were: The situation isn’t primarily about the Tridentine 1 Mass, the SSPX “no longer believes that Rome can transmit the faith, the SSPX “have taken it upon themselves to save the Church”, the penalties are not a persecution but a correction of a theological error manifesting itself as schism, It is a sin to attend Mass at an SSPX chapel. My goal is to assess the five points in as objective a manner as possible. Since I have sought the sacraments from either Fr. Normandin or the SSPX since the early 80’s it is probably t...

Is This "Here We Go Again!!!! - Russian researcher at plague lab dies of 'unknown' infection

+ JMJ Since SARS-CoV-2, I've known that there is the possibility of a SARS-CoV-3 emerging sometime in the years following the 2020 Pandemic. This is born out by that the there were two 'echoes' of the H1N1 virus that caused Spanish Influenza.  One in 1957 and another in 1968 - along with a continual seasonal outbreaks. Don't panic - time will tell. P^3 Russian researcher at plague lab dies of ‘unknown’ infection Influenza Pandemics of the 20th Century - PMC

Morning and Evening and other sundry Prayers

+ JMJ Along the theme of P^3 (Prayer, Penance, Patience), and for my own reference ... here is a collection of Morning and Evening prayers from the Ideal Daily Missal along with some additional prayers. In this crisis of the Church, I do not think it is possible to do too much prayer, penance and have patience. P^3

Hell: Neither Empty nor Full - There is Always Room for One More!!!

+ JMJ Except for the SSPX, the Catholic Church of the 21st Century seems to lack consequences. Obviously, when I speak about consequences I am referring to the speed with which Rome responded when the SSPX announced and the proceeded with the consecration of four bishops without a Papal Mandate to do so. Moving on ... The biggest consequence  whose absence I am thinking about is: The existence of hell, that the damned are damned forever (i.e. eternity), that the fallen angels are the first condemned to hell, that humans who die in a state of mortal sin are condemned to hell, Hell is neither empty nor full, there is always room for one more, See #2. However ... since the Second Vatican Council, there is a paucity of discourse within the mainstream Catholic Church on the topic.   While it is true that, except for Judas Iscariat, we cannot know without for certain who is in hell without God's help, the fact is that it exists and everyone who dies in the state of mortal...
