In my previous post, "Buried Treasure", I mentioned an article that said we should be content with what we have but not with who we are....that this discontentment with ourselves drives us to learn and grow. In all fairness, I believe that what was really meant was that we should not become complacent with ourselves. This prompted me to look further into the usage of the terms "contentment" and "complacency". This distinction is important, because there seems to be an adverse reaction to the term "contentment" Today's society seems to avoid contentment as synonymous with complacency. We really do tend to think that contentment means stagnation....or like the article said, we must not be contented with who we are because discontentment drives growing and learning and if you aren't growing and learning you might as well be dead. Do you believe that discontentment with yourself is a good thing? Ask yourself....when was the last time ...

Yesterday I had an epiphany...an "Aha" moment. Actually, it feels as if, after digging for nigh on 2 years, I've suddenly struck gold. We all get those moments....it's as if after knowing something for years it suddenly comes to life. For awhile now, something has been nagging at me; a restlessness. I thought maybe I needed more happiness in my life, so I started with common sense ideas. I figured that grace builds on nature, and there are some good tips out there; get more sleep, eat right, slow down, make time for play, relationships (with God, too!), recognize that happiness does not come from stuff. It was easy to use these ideas as a jumping off point for what we all know as Catholics; practice of the Presence of God practice of the present moment love God, love others And yet happiness is not a constant feeling. Even if we do everything right, happiness is still an emotion and as such it comes and goes. There had to be something more stable.... A...

Viva Cristo Rey! Long live Christ the King! This was the battle cry of the defenders of the Faith in Mexico. It was the last words of Catholic martyrs shot in front of the firing squad. As Catholics we should all be ready to shed our blood for the faith. Of course, we may wonder if we would have the courage, but not to fear....as long as the will is there, God will supply the grace....we may not feel as if we have the courage now because we don't have the grace yet! Pray everyday for final perseverance...and in the meantime be encouraged by the devotion of Catholics around the world. The faith is not dead. Thy Will be Done Part 3 We don't catch many glimpses of God's treasure in Holy Scripture, but what is our first "impression" which the Holy Ghost gives of His spouse? "Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to thy word" Thy Will be done. Like mother, like Son. Or in this case, like Son like Mother. Unfortunately, we do not have an angel sent from God to tell us what God is calling us to do.  Actually, Our Lady didn't have the benefit of that grace for the most part either. She and St. Joseph had to work things out as best they could, without seeing their way clear. And they had it tougher than we do. Not many of us will need to stay in a barn, or be on the run across the desert to protect a child from murder. We may not have an angel coming to us (although our Guardian Angel gives us nudges from time to time), but we do have our duty of state. There is a prayer that goes something like this;   ...
