COVID-19 Vaccines, Aborted Baby Cell-Lines and Catholic Moral Theology - Part D: Causal Relationships

+ JMJ Over the last couple of weeks I've been reviewing the chain of events / actions that have brought us to the imminent decision to accept or reject being innoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine. Why imminent?   A number of vaccines are now in phase 3 clinical trials , which means that they are slowly but surely edging towards approval. Source: https://spharm-inc.com/the-drug-review-and-approval-process-in-canada-an-eguide/  From my review and thoughts, aside from the initial act of murder, there is nothing wrong with the other acts.  Ick factor aside, if the cells had been obtained from a late term miscarriage or a accidental death, there would be no moral issues. So this explains why this is a muddy issue - because the acts, while causally related, are not related by intention.  The scientists may have benefited from the perpetration of the immoral act, but they had (as far as I can tell) nothing to do with the abortions. Causal Relationship This leads to the next issue - are we c

Conspiracy Theories and Traditional Catholicism - Part B

+ JMJ   A Dec 31, 2018 post ( Conspiracy Theories and Traditional Catholicism ) mysteriously attracted a few comments. Then the mystery was solved ... Dr. Chojnowski cited my old article on his blog here and issued a challenge .  First, here's what I said about his conspiracy theory: Because he is trying to 'prove' his conspiracy theory concerning Sister Lucy - namely that, like the 1980s theory that Pope Paul VI was 'swapped out' with a double, that Sister Lucy was replaced by a 'double'. To demonstrate this he is trotting out a number of expert opinions that confirm his theory. I find it laughable that he relies on the 'photographic evidence' and seems to dismiss the evidence provided by relatives because they were 'behind a screen'.  There's more to recognizing a person than just the unimpeded visual aspects. But debunking this theory is not what I want to highlight ...   Here's his challenge:  Dr. Chojnowski: Here is m

Cure for the Catholic Identity Crisis: Catholic Conferences

+ JMJ Michael Matt has posted a good video on his Unite the Clans Campaign and I think it is a good idea.    The biggest problem that I've seen with the various responses to this crisis is the scattered and leaderless the good guys. I've wanted to go to the Angelus Press conference for some time (also because I can squeeze in a visit to my friends near Kansas City and my Alma Mater). I think it is also a good idea to go the CIC to understand that perspective of the attendee's and at least to understand that we're not alone. Some of the problems that I've noticed in Trads  over the decades come from being too isolated from Catholicism across the world.  Attending different good conferences is a remedy to this malady. Prayer of the Crusade of Reparation to the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus: Bishop Schneider

+ JMJ My SSPX mass centre had a Holy Hour to make reparation for the sacrileges that have happened across the world and even in Canada. The priest used the attached prayer during the Holy Hour and I was so impressed with the blend of traditional prayers of reparation and recent events that I thought it would be good to add it to the record here at Tradicat. P^3 Source: Gloria Dei   My God, I believe, I adore, I trust, and I love you! I ask pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love you. (3 times) O Divine Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, behold us prostrate with a contrite and adoring heart before the majesty of your redeeming love in the Most Blessed Sacrament. We declare our readiness to atone by voluntary expiation, not only for our own personal offenses, but in particular for the unspeakable outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences by which you are offended in the Most Blessed Sacrament of your Divine love in this our time, especially through

MedCram - Update

+ JMJ  Early results from a LY-CoV555 neutralizing antibody trial are promising ... but don't get excited yet - this is the therapeutic side of the equation, not the vaccine side. It might work as a temporary vaccine ... would be good to see how it goes. P^3

STAS: The Immaculate Heart of Mary

+ JMJ   One aspect of this crisis of the Catholic Church is the abandonment of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Obviously, dishonouring Mary is not the way to re-invigorate the Catholic Church. I get the impression that some mCatholic priests are embarrassed about promoting Catholic Truth. Something to consider ... P^3  Courtesy of SSPX.org Aug 2020 - The Immaculate Heart of Mary A sermon preached by Rev. Fr. Jean-Pierre Boubee, SSPX on devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Let us go to Jesus through His most holy Mother.   Sermon given by Rev. Fr. Jean-Pierre Boubée, SSPX St. Nicolas du Chardonnet, Paris Saturday, May 2, 2020 In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. My very dear faithful, who are not present with us, normally so many of you would come to Mass on the first Saturday of the month, in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Maybe even tod

Discouragement Hits Everyone Eventually

+ JMJ      So, Peter Skojec appears to be feeling discouraged and maybe a little battle weary.  I get it and I understand how this happens. I've been there myself. Here's the advice that I received / gave to Peter in a comment.   I hope it helps! P^3 I arrived at a similar spot a few years back and here's the advice that I received from a priest that helped me immensely: 1. If you let your cup of grace empty - you will fall. 2. Studying does not 'fill' your cup. 3. You need to keep your cup full and only share the excess. 4. You keep your cup full by having a strong spiritual life. Start with spiritual reading, if something 'strikes' pause, pray/meditate/contemplate what resonated. It was good advice and although I deviate from it sometimes, it is still good. Something else that helps is to remember: 1. The first soul you have to save is your own. Do your duty of state. 2. ... then the souls of those for whom you are responsible (Wife and children) 3. .

COVID-19 Vaccines, Aborted Baby Cell-Lines and Catholic Moral Theology - Part C: St. Thomas' Principle of Double Effect

+ JMJ   The next stop in working through the vaccine issue is to understand the Catholic principle of Double Effect.  I decided to not take everyone's word about the principle of double effect, so I broke it down to confirm it's four basic principles.   The principle of double-effect has four criteria. The act must be moral, meaning it cannot be immoral (ie evil).  This is the simple principle that the ends do not justify the means. Any bad effect (result) must be accidental or indirectly caused, whereas the good effect is directly caused. The intention that directs the action must be to create only the good effect.  For example, you cannot intend to kill someone, but you can intend to protect your life. Finally, the intended effect must be proportional to the intended end. So ... if any of these criteria missing, the act is sinful.  It is pretty simple once you work through the criteria, but I have run into Traditional Catholics who have difficulty accepting this principles.

COVID-19 Vaccines, Aborted Baby Cell-Lines and Catholic Moral Theology - Part B (Ick Factor)

+ JMJ  In part A of this series , Kevin puts forward what I would label as the 'ick' factor associated with a vaccine that may contain human DNA. https://www.labnews.co.uk/article/2026267/it_simply_isn_t_cricket : The parasitical worms of P.varius appear to alter the calling behaviour of this species of cricket. Credit: Ben Hanelt[/caption]    Would it be a problem is the vaccine's were made using cells from a volunteer who is still living or a baby that miscarried? It is still the same 'ick' factor, but the moral factor would be removed. The core issue is the moral factor, not whether or not there are human cells involved, otherwise cornea and kidney transplants would be immoral. So, I'm focusing on the moral factor and I have discovered that it is not a simple black and white case.    There are a series of Intentions → Actions → Effects that are involved and they are separated by decades.  This is the realm of moral theology and involves the principle of doub

A Look Back: Bishop Fellay Responds to Hoyos Interview 2004

+ JMJ http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/1175550/posts Bishop Fellay Responds to Hoyos Interview DICI News Website ^ | 20 July 2004 | SSPX - DICI news website Posted on 7/21/2004, 9:23:09 AM by Mershon Exclusive interview with His Excellency Bishop Fellay : "We are firm, but not unreachable." 19/7/2004 Summary : Last May, the "Latin Mass" Magazine published an interview of Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, head of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. The integral text of this interview is available in the Documents section. His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Society of Saint Pius X, was kind enough to answer the questions of DICI regarding the proposals made by the Cardinal in favor of Tradition in his interview. DICI: In this interview for the Latin Mass magazine, Cardinal Castrillon-Hoyos does more than just stretch out a hand to the faithful attached to Tradition, he affirms that the Holy Father ho

TradCat Resist and the Lifting of the Excomms

+ JMJ Tradcatresist (TCR) popped up in my regular search with an article that at first I didn't understand what was the issue, but on further reading ... I think I have hit uponsomething that is bugging TCR. This paragraph (original french follows) offended TCR: "It was in his capacity as Prefect of Bishops that Cardinal Re signed the decree dated January 21, 2009 lifting the unjust excommunications brought against the founder of the Society of Saint Pius X, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre (1905-1991) and the four bishops crowned by him, without forgetting Bishop Antonio de Castro Mayer, co-consecrator of the episcopal coronations of June 30, 1988 .” https://fsspx.news/fr/le-sacre-college-nouveau-doyen-54990 Here's the french version: C’est en sa qualité de préfet des évêques que le cardinal Re avait signé le décret daté du 21 janvier 2009 levant les injustes excommunications qui avaient été portées contre le fondateur de la Fraternité Saint-Pie X, Mgr Marcel Lefe
