 + JMJ  Protestants believe that we are saved by Faith Alone (Sola Fides), even though the 'alone' part was added by Luther. What do Catholics believe? I had heard Steve Wood of Family Life International mention ( https://www.dads.org ), in response to Protestants,  that we are saved by Grace and I realized that I didn't know enough about this topic. So I dusted of my electronic copy of  Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma writtne by Ludwig Ott and dove into a study.  + JMJ  One of the distinguishing features of modern Catholicism is irregularity. In the modern Church nothing is sacred or untouchable. The Tabernacle, shunted off to the side; kneelers, gone; altar boys, replaced by altar girls; reading of the gospel by the priest, long gone and now the readings by women an approved abuse; communion on the tongue, should've started with this one first eh?   I think you get the picture - nothing that defines and separates Catholics seems to be reliable. + JMJ Perspective Lines in the Last Supper I read somewhere that change involves two 'pains'. The first is the 'unlearning' of something that you've learned.  Effectively this is overcoming previously perspectives and understanding the reality of the situation. This can be incredibly painful and I suspect many never overcome this pain and the sacrifice that accompanies the realization that the Catholic Church is in crisis. The second pain is the realization that action must be taken. The salvation of their soul and those over whom they have responsibility hang in the balance.  However, taking the right action is just as difficult because it means learning a new and, if done correctly, broader perspective. + JMJ On the way to Mass today (Feast of Christ the King), the thought occurred to me that in many ways this crisis of the Catholic Church resembles diabetes . The diabetes has a number of complications: Retinopathy: Could lead to blindness Neuropathy: Damage to the nerves resulting in foot ulcers, numbness, tingling pain and altered pain sensation- damage to extremities. Sometimes requiring amputation It can also cause death. Applied to spiritual diabetes, we have the unhealthy diet of surgar fed to modern Catholics everything living minute. + JMJ So, by now this should come as no surprise. If one takes the happy slant on ecumenism in V2, there is only one real question?  If one can be equally saved through religions as opposed to just 'in spite' of them ... then why be Catholic at all? + JMJ Differences are what allow us to distinguish between different elements.  Colour, size, shape, posture, body language, words, concepts ... the list goes on. If it were not for differences, we couldn't tell between good and bad, man and woman, etc. We also couldn't tell the difference between truth and falsehood. The following article (I'm taking Rorate-Caeli at their word concerning re-posting their content - so please support them) delves into the travesty that is the 3-year lectionary that effectively gives Catholics attending the Novus-Ordo 3 years of toothless doctrine.
