 + JMJ  So it has been a few weeks since TC was unleashed upon a suspecting Church and a few observations can now be made. First, there is to confusion between the Teaching Authority of the Church (Magisterium) and the Legislative Authority.  I point this out because of this phrase from the Canadian Military Ordinariate: We must also understand that this is not a passing occurrence. This motu proprio already carries with it the full weight of the Magisterium , being a canonically binding edict. However, it is also stated in the document that it “be published in the official Commentary of the Holy See, Acta Apostolicae Sedis [AAS; Acts of the Apostolic See].” The AAS is irreformable and binding and is an expression of the constant and universal Magisterium.  + JMJ  So the mantra has been reinforced to the point that Catholics have to profess complete and unreserved acceptance of both the teachings of the Second Vatican Council as well as the Novus Ordo Missae. In his Letter to Bishops accompanying his Apostolic Letter Traditionis Custodes , among many things worthy of comment Pope Francis says that Pope Paul VI: “declared that the revision of the Roman Missal, carried out in the light of ancient liturgical sources, had the goal of permitting the Church to raise up, in the variety of languages, ‘a single and identical prayer,’ that expressed her unity. This unity I intend to re-establish throughout the Church of the Roman Rite.” This is a puzzling statement. First, “the Church of the Roman Rite” has many other liturgical books besides the standard edition of the Roman Rite.
