 + JMJ     Peter Kwasniewski has published an article on the opposition to the Tridentine Mass - of which there appears to be no small amount in the hierarchy.   As one diocesan priest said to me, "I don't understand why they are so afraid of this Mass." I think I know why they are afraid and why they have every reason to be afraid. The Tridentine Mass, simply stated, is the embodiment of what the Catholic Church Teaches - even today.  You can't promote ecumenism of accompaniment with a liturgy the teaches ecumenism of return and conversion.  + JMJ It has been a few months since TC was and the Dubia have been published (I'm writing this Jan 1, 2022) Clarification: I'm not talking about the dubia concerning Amoris Laetitia (see links below),but the dubia concerning Traditiones Custodes ( link ).   Here's something to consider: Traditiones is about an artifact of the faith - something that expresses it - the Mass. From my perspective Amoris Laetitia is more important because it touches explicitly on the Sacrament and provides a venue. I'm happy to hear about the uproar of TC, although after the FFI it was to be expected.  The real danger is in the attempts to change the perception of Church Teaching.  + JMJ    The Remnant has posted an article by Jackson (link here) , here's a couple key points: Bad news is brewing as to the future of Ecclesia Dei communities in light of Pope Francis’ promulgation of Traditionis Custodes , which attempts to severely restrict the celebration of the Traditional Mass in dioceses as well as eliminates the use of all other Traditional sacraments with the goal of the eventual abolition of all 1962 Rites. On December 3, 2021, Lifesite News reported the following:   A German Catholic website reported that, according to its sources, the Vatican is planning a crackdown soon on the traditional Ecclesia Dei communities, going so far as to implement “papal delegates” for them and suppressing the use of the traditional Roman missal and its sacraments.  + JMJ I have added this article to the 'persecuted orders' chronicle.  Obviously, the ED superiors are concerned. Especially when someone says "Houston, we have a problem" (link) . I suspect that if push comes to shove, when the ED superiors pickup the phone to Rome, they'll get a busy signal.  Just like all the TLM parishes have experienced so far - they have no recourse. One question occurred to me when I say this post on Rorate-Caeli ... "I wonder if they invited the SSPX".  I don't think they would do that for three reasons: There appears to be a prejudice against the SSPX in some ED communities. If word got out that they included the SSPX, it would probably not work in their favour. They would have to swallow their pride, because this is why Archbishop Lefebvre performed the consecrations in 1988.  + JMJ  According to this article the Ecclesia Dei congregations have not been summoned to Rome, but they are considering the possibility of Apostolic Visitations.  Which is how things started with the FFI.  The head of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter said the meeting would be to ‘exchange points of view and to see what we can do together’ ahead of any future possible restrictions imposed by the Vatican.  Hopefully God will intervene before this happens. " A spokeswoman for the @orderofmalta in Rome has confirmed to me this morning that this June 10 letter of the Grand Master banning all liturgical ceremonies in the Extraordinary Form within the Order is genuine." + JMJ It has been reported that the head of the Canons of St. John Cantius has been accused of immoral actions and removed from his office. My thoughts: People's gut reactions that this is a targeted character assassination by a liberal Cardinal are not entirely unwarranted. However ... It wouldn't be the first time that a priest who was attached to a traditional order fell into "that" sin ... Without much effort I can think of a few over the past few years that have erupted in the media. So pray for the priest and the faithful - this trial is far from over. P^3

+ JMJ I hadn't heard anything about the FFI for a while and had suspected that they basically had given up the fight. I understand that the SSPX had some contacts with them after their order came under attack. The response was that the FFI valued obedience and would submit to their treatment. Interestingly, the situation happened at a time when Rome and the SSPX seemed to be nearing an agreement. Also, we've seen this pattern before. Rome gets close to SSPX, A few members of a traditional order complain about a traditionally minded decision, Rome intervenes directly in the business of the order, Order undergoes 're-orientation'. This happened in 2000 when a few FSSP malcontents complained about not being able to say the New Mass. With the FFI, it was the same issue.
