Church Mad.TV

+ JMJ So, I guess the pandemic wasn't keeping CMTV's people busy enough. Hence yet another hit piece against the SSPX and ... well its very sloppy. I did a little fact checking and surprise, surprise things are not quite what they implied. For example there is the alleged case of child abuse.  It seemed like the accused had been tried. Well, as far as I can see his case hasn't been tried, a number of charges have been dismissed by the judge and an appeal by the prosecution was likewise dismissed. The prosecution argued the preponderance of evidence submitted by one of the two victims, who didn’t know she was the victim of a crime until she was 19, outweighed the substantial competent evidence that would have been necessary to implicate [the accused]. So, like Cardinal Pell, one of the victims makes a preponderance of allegations ... but it should outweight the need for substantial competent evidence. Wow ... well it could just false allegations. They

Concerning the Status of the Fraternal Society of the St. Pius the Tenth (SSPX) (Fr. Zuhlsdorf)

+ JMJ Fr. Z (being a Canadian I always think of him as Fr. Zed) has written a article the sets out the status of the SSPX. It would appear that there is (again) some controversy as to the 'status' of the SSPX. Fathers articles are clear and unbiased (nice and refreshing) and I have only one thing to add.  The SSPX does have a status within the Catholic Church.  It is a simple succinct status that is embodied in one word: Persecuted. That pretty much sums up the SSPX and all the faithful Catholics who have sought refuge with them. Because they are persecuted for being Catholic. P^3 Fr. Z's Blog: What's the truth about the SSPX? Fr. Z's Blog: Another point about the SSPX, they are not a small fringe group ASK FATHER: What’s the truth about the SSPX? Posted on 16 April 2020 by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf   I was informed that some prominent internet wonks were/are having a spat about the SSPX. I looked around and found all manner o

Living through the Abomination of Desolation

+ JMJ At least that's how it feels ... a little.  ... even in the Easter Season! Only a few people at our SSPX chapel are able to go to Mass (following provincial rules for social distancing), but we have been making appointments to get the Sacraments. Driving through the nearby city had an almost apocalyptic feel, with streets bare, few people in sight. Given that it is spring (ish) and we've had a number of late snow fall hasn't helped. All the same, I am grateful for the priests of the SSPX. At least we can make appointments for confession and communion.  When spots are available some of us can still get to Mass! Something to ponder: This pandemic is truly not that bad.  Yes people are dying, but not in numbers comparable to the Bubonic plague or even the Spanish Flu . I feel that this is a warning from God.  At the height of our pride in our accomplishments God has shown us, once again, how one of the smallest of his creatures (virus) can bri

SSPX Live Stream Masses

+ JMJ Hot on the heals of posting that Modern Catholics need to make sacrifices , it does not mean that Traditional Catholics don't need to make sacrifices. We already make sacrifices, driving hours to get to Mass for example, and now we can't even get to Mass.  It is like a persecution, but of a different sort because this is a chastisement from God calling all living souls to do penance and turn away from sin. At least we can offer up the sacrifice and profit even more by this week of Passiontide. While no recording can replace actual attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the priests of the Society of Saint Pius X hope that faithful who are deprived of the ability to attend Mass can unite their prayers in this way. SSPX.org For those unable to attend, I have attached a list of SSPX livestreams. Reminder The duty to sanctify Sunday remains  for those who are prevented from attending Holy Mass: The faithful who are prevented are therefore obliged

Modern Catholics Need To Make the Sacrifices

+ JMJ Perspective Lines in the Last Supper I read somewhere that change involves two 'pains'. The first is the 'unlearning' of something that you've learned.  Effectively this is overcoming previously perspectives and understanding the reality of the situation. This can be incredibly painful and I suspect many never overcome this pain and the sacrifice that accompanies the realization that the Catholic Church is in crisis. The second pain is the realization that action must be taken. The salvation of their soul and those over whom they have responsibility hang in the balance.  However, taking the right action is just as difficult because it means learning a new and, if done correctly, broader perspective. A truly Catholic perspective. The path to and through the two pains requires sacrifice on several levels and I believe it can't be done without the continued practice of virtue.  I know of a number (Gerry Matatix, Louis Verrecchio come to m

NavyTimes: How to talk to someone you believe is misinformed about the coronavirus

+ JMJ I hope you're all keeping well amidst the coronavirus outbreak. Part of my role at work is to monitor the risk context and covid-19 forms a large part of it right now. There's a lot of crazy 'opinions' out in the intergnat, some of it down right dangerous. So ... here's something that I found on Navy Times about have covid-19 discussions. Also ... don't miss the editorial commentary at the end of the article.
