Traditiones Custodes - The Gift That Keeps On Taking - Part B

+ JMJ It has been a few months since TC was and the Dubia have been published (I'm writing this Jan 1, 2022) Clarification: I'm not talking about the dubia concerning Amoris Laetitia (see links below),but the dubia concerning Traditiones Custodes ( link ).   Here's something to consider: Traditiones is about an artifact of the faith - something that expresses it - the Mass. From my perspective Amoris Laetitia is more important because it touches explicitly on the Sacrament and provides a venue. I'm happy to hear about the uproar of TC, although after the FFI it was to be expected.  The real danger is in the attempts to change the perception of Church Teaching. As in other things, the leaders of the Catholic Church attempt to make exceptions to the Truth instead of their duty.  I wonder what else will have happened in the first four months of 2022.  I predict that the Eccelsia Dei communities will be experiencing the happy embrace that the Holy Father provided to the FF

SSPX and the Vatican: A Comparison of Ecclesiology

+ JMJ  Back in 2014, I compared the so-called "Resistance" perception of the Church vs that of the SSPX (link) . Given the publication of Traditionis Custodes, it would appear that a comparison the "Modern Catholic" perception of the Church vs the Teaching of the Church is warranted.   While I have titled this article as a comparison of the SSPX and Vatican's ecclesiology, I submit that the SSPX's perspective is nothing less or more than that of the Catholic Church before the Second Vatican Council. The Church Before Council:The Catholic Church IS the Church of Christ Post Council: The Catholic Church SUBSISTS in the Church of Christ Consequence: The Catholic Church is active in other communities (ie Churches) outside the Catholic Church and the other 'Churches' are vehicles of salvation. Members of the Church Before Council: Actual members are the baptized, who profess the true faith (not heretics), are united to the Mystical Body of Christ (not s

ReBlog: Doctrinal Preamble April 15, 2012 vs Protocol 1988 (Updated with Text of Nota Praevia)

+ JMJ  Ten years ago on April 15, 2012, the SSPX provided Rome with it's Doctrinal Preamble. Originally, Pope Benedict was reported to be satisfied with it and the SSPX expected to reach an agreement. However, something changed and the subsequent meeting did not go as expected. I repost this blog for two reasons. First the anniversary and second because there appears to be some misunderstanding of what the SSPX believes vis-a-vis Vatican II etc. I understand that Bishop Fellay noted that this preamble represents the extreme limit of what the SSPX can accept. As noted by Bishop Fellay (then SSPX superior general), not one word can be changed if Rome wanted an agreement. P^3  P.S. I have attached below the reblogged post, the Nota Praevia that can still be found today a the end of Lumen Gentium (see Vatican Lumen Gentium - link ).

A Special Intention for Holy Week: A Priest In Crisis - Updated

+ JMJ  I just learned of a diocesan priest who is in a crisis. He has already made some bad decisions and is need of prayers, and Holy Week is a time of great grace. Priests leaving the priesthood is not a new phenomenon, it was happening before the Second Vatican council and continued post-Council.  What is new is the heights of systemic attrition from the religious life on the part of priests, monks, brothers and nuns.  It even happens in the SSPX.  Some priests go into monasteries, others leave to join an Ecclesia Dei congregation or a diocese. Others join the 'resistance' and sedevacantists. These remain faithful to their call and ordination. There there's another group. Those that abandon their vocation. This is not unique to priests, but I would wager it is a heavier cost for the Church than the thousands of brothers, monks, sisters and nuns who are unfaithful to their vows. In this group we find those who lose the faith in toto, join the protestants or orthodox, aba

Perspectives on Russia / Putin's War with the Ukraine

+ JMJ  As I write this on March 26th, I have no idea if the war in the Ukraine will have abated or engulfed the rest of the world.  Either way, I am confident that the consecration has been done and that it was late but not too late.  More on this in another article. From some perspectives the way they are isolating and pushing the Russian people into an economic and social corner seems very short sighted.  It's is almost as if the liberal westerners believe they can "cancel" Russia.   I remember when there was an 'uprising' in the Ukraine that ousted a legitimately elected pro-Russian president. At the time I remember seeing some references to a CIA involvement and that Russia at least believed this report.  It precipitated a number of events that have since taken place and I believe is based on a simple tenet: Might makes Right.  If the West will break agreements that were made to give Russia a sense of security (Nato expansion etc) and the CIA is involved in o

SSPX.org: Don Davide Pagliarani Meets with Pope Francis

+ JMJ This meeting was noted a while back and  the announcement is generally aligned with what I heard through the grape vine. P^3   Courtesy of SSPX.org On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Don Davide Pagliarani, Superior General of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), went to Rome. On this occasion there was a personal meeting with Pope Francis, who received him in private audience for about half an hour. The informal conversation was very polite and gave the Superior General the opportunity to introduce himself to the Holy Father, whom he was meeting for the first time. This meeting made it possible to show that the SSPX has no other goal than to serve the Church in the midst of the current crisis. Fr. Pagliarani had the opportunity to make it clear to the Pope that everything the Society does has only this service in mind. Mutual good memories of Argentina were also exchanged. This visit by the Superior General to the Holy Father corresponded to a wish that had been cherished

Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

+ JMJ  There are two parts to the request of Our Lady of Fatima: Consecration of Russia ( Responsibility of Pope and Bishops! ) First Five Saturdays ( Responsibility of Catholic Laity! ) As Cardinal Burke pointed out: The peace of God will come to the world through two means: 1) the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and 2) the practice of the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturday of the month. Source: National Catholic Register Further the National Catholic Register article recounts what Our Lady said: Look again at what she said next: To prevent this [World War II and the persecution of the Church and the Holy Father], I shall come to the world to ask that Russia be consecrated to my Immaculate Heart, and I shall ask that, on the first Saturday of every month, Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins of the world.
