Changes at One Peter Five

 Steve Skojec has sold OnePeterFive to Crisis Magazine and is looking to have a more balanced family life (link).

 I understand completely the risks of putting everything into a venture such as 1P5.  He was dependent on the vagaries of the Catholic population and frankly, his 'product' seems to have paid the bills and supported his family, while avoiding many of the attendant pitfalls. 

A number of 'converts' to Tradition who have taken the same path, from my perspective, lost their balance and fell into various errors with sedevacantism being the more common one.  It is hard of a persons physically, mentally and spiritually to be confronted with the full force of the crisis and the criticism of people from all facets of this crisis.  

The criticism from Catholics who should know better (see Canon212 headline below), shows a lack of charity, empathy and insight. These types of cynical headlines reveal more about the author of the headline than that subject of the articles.

Let's put a Catholic perspective on this.  Skojec is married and has a large family. His first duty is to them, not the Catholic critics and cynics.  That he has made this move is admirable, especially as he is a 'public' figure.  His work will go on and I hope that it continues to provide a balanced perspective on this crisis and the way forward.

To Mr. Skojec, I wish him all the best success in performing his Catholic duty for his family, and thank him for his contributions to Catholicism.

    Skojec put together a good product but it was obvious the professional and personal challenges were getting to him. You have to be pretty detached to be a high-profile editor. Then there was his f@c3b@@k account where he would lash out at people a lot and it was clear he was done.

The Curious Case of Steve Skojec and the Dangers of Deep Diving into the Crisis Sub-Titled: The Failings of Others

 + JMJ It's been a while now since Steve Skojec sold 1P5 and abandoned the Catholic Faith. I've been a 'Trad' since 1982 and in those 40+ years I seen this death-spiral before with a similar end point. It seems that anyone who jumps into the fray unprepared for the enormous task of righting wrongs will, eventually, become discouraged by not the task but the people who surround them.   I remember when Skojec complained of the treatment his family received from a traditional priest.  This seems to have been the start of the end for him. So what can we learn from the likes of Steve Skojec, Michael Voris (maybe?), Louie Verrecchio, Gerry Matatix and other celebrity Catholics? Probably quite a lot about what not to do.
