Last night some interesting observations arose as Tradiate and I walked and talked through the park.
- Traditionis Custode, seems to be an act of desperation as if to distract from the real divisions within the Catholic Church ... such as the German Catholics ... or perhaps a realization that time is running short for the Pope.
- The assault on the Tridentine Mass has created a Rubicon moment for Catholics - both hierarchy and laity. In short order the lines will be clear where all stand on this battle field. On the one side there will be the 'Trads' and on the other ... the others.
- This will be very important in the next conclave, which I suspect will happen 'soon'.
- The conclave rules for the election still require a two-thirds majority.
- Perhaps Traditionis Custode will have an unintentional influence on the next conclave by creating a more polarized college of cardinal - polarized by Pope Francis.
On Gloria TV an article was posted (link) that ended with this:
La Cigüeña asks why Francis’ intemperance came now. His answer, “Some say, Francis was waiting for Benedict's death to overrule him until - with Gemelli hospital in between - he was told that he might leave first. So, he could no longer wait.”
That would be consistent, but I suspect that there were more pressing factors!
