Fr. Burfitt on Fr. Pfeiffer's Attempted Consecration

Amidst the shadows cast by the publication of Traditionis Custodes, I am working on a map of the 'resistance' splinters to put their reaction in contrast with that of the SSPX.

In the midst of this, I just came across Fr. Burfitt letter on the attempted consecration. Breaking it down (see below) items 2 and 3 are key. Just as the consecrating bishop is 'doubtful', even if he hadn't muffed the first attempt, Fr. Pfeiffer remain doubtful and therefore this impacts those men is attempts to 'ordain'.

There were rumours that Fr. Pfeiffer was seeking episcopal consecration for years as he cast about for various bishops (also doubtful) to help him achieve this goal. I wonder how he convinced the 'doubtful' bishop to provide (twice) the doubtful consecration.

What a mess! This creates a danger to the souls of his followers and wonder where it will end. Will he go full sede and have himself 'elected' pontiff as others have done before him?

The resistance remains a sad response to a complicated situation. Yet, where are the real compromises?

One of of our former priests of the Society of Saint Pius X, left the union of priests, argued against us as Resistance and has recently assumed to himself the Episcopacy.
His ordaining bishop is of a highly doubtful, excommunicated, sedevacantist, illegitimate line of THUC bishops and has no certain power, and he was not in any condition or given authority to Consecrate.
Fr. Joseph Pfeiffer has assumed to himself this episcopal consecration as “bishop” at the hands of a doubtful bishop and now has “ordained” men who are not prepared and who have no right to be parading as Catholic priests.
A few of you have been asked to participate in the ceremonies of Masses of these “priests” and I have told you to not have anything to do with these misled and harmful men.
They do no good for the Church in the way they proceed. To participate WITH THEM OR TO RECEIVE NORMALLY HOLY THINGS FROM FAKE MINISTERS is destructive to your faith, participation in another’s sin of irreverance toward the Priesthood of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Mass, and at worst it is that of Sacrilege!
I am sorry if anyone has given them positions, authority or place to act as priests.
This is my warning and prohibition. Stay far away. Your neighbours from a local traditional Mass center may need help and reassurance. Make certain they are welcome at Our Lady of the Angels. We need solid, certain and objective life in the Church.

A Reply to Martin Blackshaw’s FLAWED Remnant article titled: FLAWED: SSPX Advice on Abortion-tainted Vaccines

+ JMJ An article has appeared in the Remnant (link to article) and I am afraid that there are a number of flaws in it that need to be addressed. The author, Martin Blackshaw, believes that both the Church and the SSPX are misapplying the principle of Moral Theology called 'Cooperation In Evil'. Unfortunately, Mr. Blackshaw rests most of his arguments on citing authors that support his position, without considering the possibility that they are wrong. This highlights a key factor in this crisis: ignorance of the faith and its application . I don't am not singling out Mr. Blackshaw for this criticism, I have observed that it applies to laity and religious, superior and subject a like. No one seems immune in this enduring crisis, myself included. Introduction The recent and continuing interactions between the Vatican and the SSPX have been a great opportunity for prayer and reflection. The basis for the disagreement is theological and not liturgical. As noted by Dr. Lamont (2012), the SSPX theological position on the four key controversial aspects of the Second Vatican Council are base on prior theological work that resulted from relevant magisterial pronouncements. + JMJ Bishop Fellay gave a conference late last month and provided some more insight into the situation with Rome. There are comments on Deus Ex Machina Blog and Hilary White has now entered the fray. What is one Catholic to think about all these opinions? What a Catholic is to think: With the Church! What does the Church think about obedience? Virtue as it is? If there is no proximate occasion of sin and the other conditions are met, then one cannot resist the command.

Shining the light of Church Teaching on the doctrinal positions of the SSPX and the Resistance. Principles are guides used to aid in decision making. It stands to reason that bad principles will lead to bad decisions.
