I suspect that the Pope won't respond to the filial correction. However, his supporters will.
I just noticed the first 'response' from the National unCatholic Reporter.
While I leave you to read it for yourself I found the following interesting:
- The labels of Schismatics, extremists, liars, hypocrites etc are trotted out for all to see. Not totally surprising given that I suspect (along with others) that they will be unable to respond intellectually to the correction. As such they will have recourse to a Liberals favorite tool: venomous words.
- Nothing on the substance of the correction. I think that no response indicates the inability to respond.
Here's some tidbits:
Stephen Walford, a British Catholic author who has written several books on the papacy and the theology of the church, said the accusation of heresy "is based around claims the Holy Father has never made -- lies essentially -- and a massive dose of hypocrisy."I guess he didn't read the correction ... oh well.
And then we have this bit:
"The signatories also attack Pope Francis for his attitude to Martin Luther, and yet, their own judging of what is acceptable for a pope to teach is nothing short of Protestantism; it’s a DIY (do-it-yourself) Catholicism," said Walford, who is currently at work on a book about Amoris Laetitia and recently met with Francis at the Vatican. So the Theologians cite the magisterium clearly indicating the truth. I guess they are the kings of 'making stuff up'. Well, that is what modernism amount to anyway.
Finally, we have this bit:
"Anyone who spends just a short time on social media will be aware of the vitriol and judgmentalism aimed at those who are loyal to Pope Francis: Anger, arrogance, pride, ridicule and unkindness," Walford continued. "These are the fruits of the evil one, and they will never bring forth a restoration of a golden age that never existed."This is a deflection from the point. This is not some social media campaign aimed at a Liberal Pope. This is Catholic Theologians doing their duty.
It is about time.
Perhaps it would be useful if we sent a copy to our bishops and asked them to make a decision on the Faith. After all, using the Jesuit analogy, there are only two standards.
We could also post a list of those who refused to sign, this way we'll make certain we know who's on what side.
What side are you on?
