In the wake of the leadership style of Pope Francis, its been noticed that the conservative opposition to the post-conciliar novelties and even clear statements of Church Teaching are being suppressed (1).
This
has led one Catholic Priest to comment that:
Most Catholics but especially clergy want to be loyal to the Pope in order to maintain the unity of the Church, today that loyalty is perhaps best expressed through silence. ( 2)The principle being evoked is that, in order to maintain 'unity of the Church', the good will be silent in the face of abuses and doctrinal error.
Was Archbishop Lefebvre not correct when he wrote:
For it is a master-stroke of Satan to get Catholics to disobey the whole of Tradition in the name of obedience. (3)Ultimately, in order to maintain 'unity' with the Pope, by their silence, the 'Conservatives" give free rein to the "Progressives".
This probably won't make much of a difference since "Conservative Catholics" have succeeded in conserving practically none of the bastions of the Catholic Faith that were targeted by the Progressives (see scorecard).
So how much better will the 'Conservatives' fare if they decide to 'mute' their 'opposition' to the novelties being put forward by the hierarchy - Pontiff included?
Answer: Not much
