What Comes After Traditionis Custodes? A Near-Term Thought Exercise ...

 + JMJ Last night some interesting observations arose as Tradiate and I walked and talked through the park. Traditionis Custode, seems to be an act of desperation as if to distract from the real divisions within the Catholic Church ... such as the German Catholics ... or perhaps a realization that time is running short for the Pope. The assault on the Tridentine Mass has created a Rubicon moment for Catholics - both hierarchy and laity.  In short order the lines will be clear where all stand on this battle field. On the one side there will be the 'Trads' and on the other ... the others. This will be very important in the next conclave, which I suspect will happen 'soon'.  The conclave rules for the election still require a two-thirds majority.   Perhaps Traditionis Custode will have an unintentional influence on the next conclave by creating a more polarized college of cardinal - polarized by Pope Francis. Redemptionis Sacramentum

 + JMJ  Since Pope Francis brought up Redemptionis Sacramentum, I thought it would be good to include it here and to have a look-see at the text 😉 One thing is that in trying to constrain 'abuses' of a rite that was designed to engender diversity and acceptance by protestants - is like putting lipstick on a pig.  The rite is a banal fabrication.  Article 41 struck a cord since I was present at a meeting with Bishops where they said that we don't want to go back to little old ladies praying their rosary in the pew during Mass: [41.] For encouraging, promoting and nourishing this interior understanding of liturgical participation, the continuous and widespread celebration of the Liturgy of the Hours, the use of the sacramentals and exercises of Christian popular piety are extremely helpful.
