Sometimes, the SSPX is accused of being schismatic because their bishops offer the Pontifical Mass from the Throne, which is normally reserved to a Bishop in his diocese.
I have asked Fr. Lorans for clarification on the SSPX's rationale. The response is below.
So it is not a 'schismatic' act.

Dear -----------,
Thank you for your inquiry which Father Lorans has forwarded to me. Please pardon my great delay in replying.
It is true that strictly speaking an auxiliary bishop should normally offer a Pontifical Mass from the faldstool. However, as our Society clergy were so accustomed to the ceremonies at the throne (which was allowed to Archbishop Lefebvre due to his rank), this practice was merely continued for the pontifical rites within our priestly society.
That being said, I believe that our bishops have always used the faldstool when they offer a Pontifical Mass in the city of Rome out of respect for the Supreme Pontiff.
I hope that this helps to clarify the matter and God bless.
