I had some time this morning so I've pulled together some more articles (kind-of a house cleaning).
In the course of the article on evil, I came across this youtube by Bishop Barron. Skip ahead to 5:15 and you'll hear the Bishop Barron accepts Von Balthasar's theory of universal salvation. Which is inconsistent with Catholic Truth (ie if it ain't heresy in the formal sense, it really casts a blind eye on the scriptures and logic).
So, Bishop Barron is pretty clear - he believes that it is possible that all may be saved.
This article on Commonweal (ie Liberal / Modernist) echoes Bishop Barron. However, you have to have a pretty strong confirmation bias to ignore the following the demonstrate that this theory (already condemned) is pretty hard (read: IMPOSSIBLE) to reconcile with the following:
- The Demons (ie Fallen Angels) are in Hell.
- Logically we can conclude (as many theologians have) that Judas is in hell. Otherwise Matthew 26:24 does not make sense.
- Kinda hard to believe no one is in hell when you have these words for OLJC: "Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25: 41)
So, in order to believe with the Catholic Church, you have to believe that there are souls as well as fallen angels (ie demons) inhabiting that place.
You can also believe that while not empty, it isn't full, there's always room for one more.
I've noticed this same confirmation bias in a number of modern Catholics. They seem to have a difficulty dealing with harsh realities.
Once Catholics start to understand and adhere to the basic tents of the Catholic Faith, then we'll start emerging from this crisis.
The last things are a good spot to start:
Death
Judgement
Heaven
Hell
