Slain by which spirit? |
Yes, I deliberately meant to use the words "infected" and "possessed" because I believe them to be apt descriptions of the condition people unknowingly find themselves.
I suspect that the late John Vennari (RIP) would agree.
Now let's be clear: There is nothing Catholic about this movement. It originated outside of the Catholic Church, it is not the 8th Sacrament that some seem to believe it to be, and it is dangerous.
For a look at the history please read this article: Tradicat: "Catholic" Charismatic Renewal - Culture Shock ) that I reposted with Mr. Vennari's permission.
Key point in the history is this account:
One of those present, Ralph Keifer, wrote that at the end of this prayer meeting "Pat [Bourgeois] and I asked to be prayed with for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. They broke up into several groups because they were praying over several people. They simply asked me to make an act of faith for the power of the Spirit to work in me. I prayed in tongues rather quickly."5 Later, the same Ralph Keifer laid hands on two others (unidentified in the book) and they too "received the baptism in the spirit."This account provides sufficient proof that the CCR (not Creedence Clearwater Revival) did not originate within the Catholic Church, nor is it a vestige of Catholicism that the Catholic Church lost and the protestants retained.
In spite of what "Church Militant" and Michael Voris state here, there is great danger in the "substance" of the CCR, leaving one's self open for the 'spirit' to enter. A number of the accounts related by Mr. Vennari are consistent with demonic possession.
