A Digest of Articles

There is a lot happening as the crisis of the Church moves towards what may or may not be a climax: The Canonization of Pope John Paul II.

Instead of putting together a single post for each one (as my time is limited these days), I've put together a digest.  These articles highlight some of the ebbs and flows in the crisis or point out some of the cultural norms that stand at odds with the current dominating culture within the Church.

"Reform of the Church"

  • These posts are all focused on the Novus Ordo / Liturgical 'reform'.  I would note that in the context of the Church a 'reform' means a returning to practices that were covered up over the course of time. The NOM is nothing of the sort.

  • The original schemas were abandoned as the first act of the Council.  This is the same as throwing out the agenda as the first order of business.  Once the agenda was discarded, it is safe to say, a conflict erupted over who would control the agenda of the Church for the near future.

Traditionalism - Thesis and Anti-Thesis

  • People who follow 'fashions' are slaves to their constantly changing nature.  'Traddies' are the anti-thesis to people who follow 'fashions'.   Where in the Church do you find a rapidly devolving liturgy?

Crisis Hot spots

  • There are a number of hot spots in the ongoing crisis of the Church.  To lay it out, homosexuality, divorce, married priests, abortion, contraception, and the Pope.  I include the Pope because, like any culture change program, this crisis started at the top, and it will be ended by the Pope in a similar fashion.

A Little Perspective on Pope Leo XIV

+ JMJ By Edgar Beltrán / The Pillar - https://x.com/edgarjbb_/status/1920590815472108021, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=165004058 The Catholic Church has a new Vicar of Christ.   As discussed in my short series " Who's in Charge? ", we know that Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as Vicar of Christ in the recent conclave, taken the name Pope Leo XIV, and been accepted by the moral unanimity of Bishops and faithful in union with the Catholic Church. Roberto de Mattei has written an article for Rorate Caeili ( RORATE CÆLI: Leo XIV and the Future of the Church - by Roberto de Mattei ) that delves into some aspects of this major event in the life of the Catholic Church. The Pope has addressed the Cardinals and made clear some of his thoughts: In this regard, I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council ....

Morning and Evening and other sundry Prayers

+ JMJ Along the theme of P^3 (Prayer, Penance, Patience), and for my own reference ... here is a collection of Morning and Evening prayers from the Ideal Daily Missal along with some additional prayers. In this crisis of the Church, I do not think it is possible to do too much prayer, penance and have patience. P^3

The Curious Case of Steve Skojec and the Dangers of Deep Diving into the Crisis Sub-Titled: The Failings of Others

+ JMJ It's been a while now since Steve Skojec sold 1P5 and abandoned the Catholic Faith. I've been a 'Trad' since 1982 and in those 40+ years I seen this death-spiral before with a similar end point. It seems that anyone who jumps into the fray unprepared for the enormous task of righting wrongs will, eventually, become discouraged by not the task but the people who surround them.   I remember when Skojec complained of the treatment his family received from a traditional priest.  This seems to have been the start of the end for him. So what can we learn from the likes of Steve Skojec, Michael Voris (maybe?), Louie Verrecchio, Gerry Matatix and other celebrity Catholics? Probably quite a lot about what not to do. First, don't burn out on the crisis?  When you burn out, on work or anything else, little things assume a more greater importance than they are due.   This is one of my 'canary in the coal mine' signals that I've been stretching myself too th...

Mary Victrix: The Cyrpto-Lefebvrist Dodge (aka The Crypto-Lefebvrist Dodge)

+ JMJ Setting aside the spelling mistake in the title, I noticed yet another volley in the ongoing war of words between Fr. Greiger and various other people he has labelled as 'cyrpto-lefebvrists'. I also noticed that he has made some statements that are not supported by references or distort the actual positions of the SSPX. As a rule I assume that a person is of good-will and not of malicious intent. This is, after all, the Catholic approach to relations. So at this point I am assuming that Father Angelo Mary Greiger is simply operating under a confirmation bias , that he may be using to reduce any cognitive dissonance that he is experiencing. As such when I noticed some of the issues with the post were incorrect, I emailed Fr. Greiger my thought. As he has not amended the article, I post below a copy of my email. P^3
