Dogma: Why The Catholic Church Has Dogmas

 +

JMJ

When Steve Skojec sold 1P5 he started some new online channels - one of which is a newsletter to which I subscribed.

His actions and thoughts have peaked my interest ... or at least some of his thoughts. He seemed to question why the Church had dogmas.

The Church doesn't 'have' Dogmas per se.  The Church receives them from God and transmits them onwards to the generations that follow. The realization of the Dogmas is part of the life of the Church - the Church doesn't 'bind' them per se as She realizes the Teaching for what it is - The Word of God.

It is not a luxury to reveal a new Dogma, Doctrine etc. it is as natural to the Church as breathing is for us.

So simply put the Truth is the Truth and if it came from God - then we need to trust in God and believe him.

A Look Back: A short history of the SSPX

+ JMJ  I started a timeline a while back but never finished it.  Fortunately, here's one that brings us up to 1994!!! P^3 http://archives.sspx.org/SSPX_FAQs/a_short_history_of_the_sspx-part-1.htm   A short history of the SSPX A presentation given by Fr. Ramon Angles in Kansas City, MO, on the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the SSPX and reprinted from the January 1996 issue of The Angelus . Part 1 The history of the Society of St. Pius X begins, of course, in the mind of God. But do not believe that its temporal origin is to be found solely at the time of the post-conciliar crisis. The Society of St. Pius X was made possible ...

Rome and the SSPX - the latest

+ JMJ Bishop Fellay gave a conference late last month and provided some more insight into the situation with Rome. There are comments on Deus Ex Machina Blog  and Hilary White has now entered the fray. What is one Catholic to think about all these opinions? What a Catholic is to think: With the Church! What does the Church think about obedience?  Virtue as it is? If there is no proximate occasion of sin and the other conditions are met, then one cannot resist the command.

News Roundup: February 23, 2026

+ JMJ February started off with a chaotic flurry of Rome and SSPX interactions. I've pulled together quite a list of internet articles (see below) and more keep appearing on my regular searches. ... So I think I need to stop adding as of today.  I think that there are only two documents that bear a separate analysis - the two press releases made by Rome and the SSPX.  One element that I learned is that the SSPX intends to consecrate five bishops.  We now know that the SSPX is going to proceed with the Consecration of Five (5) Auxiliary Bishops.  I will post another article on this event in more detail once time allows. Here is a discussion by John-Henry Westen on his YouTube Channel Sign of the Cross. My only comments at this time on the events are: We've been in this situation in 1988, so what is old is new again. For those who feel that the SSPX is leaving communion, yeah ... no. This does not materially change the situation of the SSPX as the legal aspe...

Is Dogma Important?

+ JMJ Are the Dogmas of the Catholic Church important? Apparently not. At least not if it is a 'stumbling block' (read: Archbishop Bugnini) between our separated brethren (read: schismatic & orthodox). But I'm getting ahead of myself ...
