 As expected the pace of life has picked up after the slight and I mean very slight, lull after Christmas.

Against the continual and persevering crisis of the Catholic Church we have the Death of Bishop Williamson.

Suffice to say that, like many others, I knew Bishop Williamson. I have met with him privately to discuss some rumours that I'd heard from former seminarians, attended both retreats and Doctrinal Sessions at Winona, and on one occasion even had the privilege of driving him to the airport.

I saw the breach coming in 2009 and started praying for him to not do, frankly, something stupid.  Yes, I was thinking about the time that he was banned from Canada for comments on the Holocaust. Then three years later we had his expulsion. 

I've written criticizing Bishop Williamson's positions on numerous topics (see Collection - Resistance and Resistors     ) and while the 'resistance' is now set in its erroneous ways, now is the time to pray for the man who once stood firmly on the path set by Archbishop Lefebvre.

Bishop Williamson for all his good points was a man of responsibility and with that responsibility comes great accountability to the Just Judge.

For that, like all of us, he needs prayers, not just because of that - we need to pray so that all the good works he did are not washed away like sand castles in the surf.

Shining the light of Church Teaching on the doctrinal positions of the SSPX and the Resistance. Principles are guides used to aid in decision making.  It stands to reason that bad principles will lead to bad decisions. The recent interactions between Rome and the SSPX has challenged a number of closely held cultural assumptions of people in both sides of the disagreement. This has resulted in cultural skirmishes in both Rome and the SSPX. Since it is the smaller of the two, the skirmishes have been more evident within the SSPX.  The cultural fault-line that Bishop Fellay crossed appears to be linked to two points of Catholic Doctrine: Ecclesiology and Obedience.  The cultural difference of view points is strong enough that it has resulted in the expulsion of a number of members.  It should also be noted that some other priests expelled since the beginning of the latest interactions (starting in 2000) held the same view points and have joined with the l...

Tradical Commentary on: Restore DC Catholicism: SSPX And Austrilian Bishops - Two Different Errors

+ JMJ An interesting thing has happened on the discussion that prompted my article on whether it is sinful to attend the Novus Ordo Missae .  The blog owner of RDCC has shut down discussion by locking the article. That is their prerogative, but I am puzzled as to why? Perhaps it has something to do with some of the latter comments. They didn't believe the teaching on intention with regards to confecting the Sacraments.  This is not the first time I've experienced incredulity on this topic ( reference articles ). Really this isn't about what they believe but the truth. They seem to believe that the objections to the Novus Ordo Missae are simply about "overly delicate sensibilities".  In response to this I am reblogging a number of articles by the SSPX. Perhaps it was the comment made by Bishop Schneider, a currently well revered hero (who deserved the accolades) but apparently has said something similar to the SSPX.   I suspect that it is more...
