I was recently introduced to a work of St. Thomas De Veritate ( Source ) in the course of an argument concerning the minimum content of explicit faith. When I submitted the following quote as proof: Theological faith, that is, a supernatural faith in Revelation, is necessary, and this is an effect of grace (D 1789); nemini unquam sine ilIa contigit iustificatio (D 1793). As far as the content of this faith is concerned, according to Hebr. 11, 6, at least the existence of God and retribution in the other world must be firmly held, necessitate medii (by the necessity of means) with explicit faith. In regard to the Trinity and the Incarnation, implicit faith suffices. The supernatural faith necessary for justification is attained when God grants to the unbeliever by internal inspiration or external teaching a knowledge of the truths of Revelation, and actual grace to make the supernatural act of faith. Seeking A Way Forward: A Lay Catholic Traditionalist's Thoughts and Reflections on ways to help the Church emerge from this crisis of Faith
You probably did not notice but this diagram in one of its points implies that Bible is not infallible.

Hi Hans,
DeleteThat would be: "Argument From Scripture: An argument that if one part of a source is true, then the entire source must be true. Does not apply exclusively to holy texts or Biblical Scriptures."
I had noticed it earlier, but didn't reflect on it for too long. Its seems to be a variant of the part to whole fallacy.
To make the proper distinctions Scripture (The Bible) is Divinely Inspired, but not 'infallible' in the correct use of the term. There is only one infallible interpreter of the Bible: The Church.
All the same, the atheistic tone is obvious - thanks for pointing it out!!!

English is not my native language but what I wanted to say is that Bible contains no error.
DeleteThere are also some other problematic points in the diagram due to its general animus.

Hi Hans,
ReplyDeleteThanks! Most psychological articles will be tainted. I linked the "Psy of Conspiracy Theories" because of their insights to conspiracy theory, but there are (alas) issues in some of the articles that are anti-religious.
