Rorate-Caeli: V2 Triggered Catholic Decline

+ JMJ This is yet another one for the Chronicle.  I think that V2 simply was the surfacing of riptides the moved under the calm surface of the Church for decades.  All the 'isms' combined have been working to destroy God's Church for decades.   We know that they will fail. It doesn't mean there won't be casualties along the way. As I've mentioned before, anyone who doesn't adhere to solid Catholic principles will become a casualty in what is truly a war. So ... a broad understanding of Catholic Dogma, Doctrine and Principles are the way to not be bantha fodder. P^3 Courtesy of Rorate-Caeli: V2 Triggered Decline of Catholic Church Conclusion of Major New Economic Research Paper: "Vatican II, in 1962-1965, triggered a decline in worldwide Catholic attendance relative to that in other denominations."   From the summary of a major new paper just published by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), in Cambridge, Massachusetts, authored by some...

Is the SSPX in Schism? What is the difference between Disobedience and Schism???

+ JMJ There remains people ... even today ... who believe that the SSPX is in schism. The Evidence So ... let's go through some of the arguments put forward to support that assertion. 3. In itself, this act was one of disobedience to the Roman Pontiff in a very grave matter and of supreme importance for the unity of the church, such as is the ordination of bishops whereby the apostolic succession is sacramentally perpetuated. Hence such disobedience - which implies in practice the rejection of the Roman primacy - constitutes a schismatic act. (Note 3) In performing such an act, notwithstanding the formal canonical warning sent to them by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops on 17 June last, Mons. Lefebvre ... have incurred the grave penalty of excommunication envisaged by ecclesiastical law.(Note 4)  Vatican: Ecclesia Dei Adflicta So ... Pope St. John Paul II wrote that the disobedience implies a rejection of the Roman primacy and therefore constitutes a schi...

Negotiations: Fear of Loss

+ JMJ I've been following the work of Chris Voss in the art of negotiation for some time and subscribed to his email newsletter. The fear of loss is a huge motivator and it applies to many facets of our lives. In the case of the crisis of the Church, some Catholics lock on to a decision and hold on to it as if it depended on their lives. They fear losing something.  In one argument, it became obvious that my opponent feared something. Eventually, it came out that, if I was right about the Crisis of the Catholic Church and the SSPX, then practically everything they believed was wrong. That is why we need to be aware of the fear that Traditional Catholicism instills in even well meaning Modern Catholics.  If we're right, then soooo much of what they think and believe is potentially wrong. P^3 In a tough negotiation, it’s not enough to show the other side you can deliver what they want. That’s table stakes . Everyone’s doing that. Real influence? That comes when you help th...

Is There Such A Thing As Toxic Traditional Catholicism?(2ed)

+ JMJ Introduction During my first forays into the cyber worlds of Forums and Blogs in 2012, I encountered a varied sampling of variety of humanity.  One thing I noticed was that people seem far less inhibited online and I wondered which person (online or virtual) is the real one.  Since then,  I've been wondering if Toxic Traditional Catholicism is really a thing? First, what is meant by a 'Toxic' anything?   The obvious answer is any thing, person or group that is poisonous. Meaning poisonous in the frame of biology, or relationships.   Deep breath - what follows are my immediate, partially researched and in some cases experienced realities ... In the case of ... Biology , it is simple. Certain animals excrete various fluids that are toxic / poisonous to others.  This is claimed to be a defense mechanism - but I won't go into the evolutionary gobbly gook about that. People , it is about whether or not the relationship has an adverse effect...

News Roundup: July 11, 2025

+ JMJ This has been an interesting month for news ... First we had the leaking of the 2021 report on what I would call the "Survey of Tradition".  Not surprisingly, the report was generally positive and Pope Francis ... for whatever reason ... still proceeded with Traditionis Custodes.  Andrea Grillo is not pleased with this turn of affairs. I suspect that the 'leaking' of the report is a symptom of a course correction.  Time will tell as this pontificate unfolds.  I am still curious to hear if the SSPX Superiour General will be invited to Rome this summer while the Pope reclaims the Castel Gandolfo.   That is my critical success indicator for whether or not Catholics can really consider the pontificate of Pope Francis (RIP) are truly an aberration of the past. Then we have the firing of John-Henry Westen from Life Site News.  I have no idea what happened to cause the board coup - - - as close a the vote was - he is now out of LFN.  There is...
