What I wish I knew when I started out as a TC Mother: Vis-a-Vis Stuff!!!!

I was talking with my husband about some things that I had done in the early years of our marriage.

... or more correctly, what I hadn't done.

He said:
You really need to write this down for our kids and for anyone who reads Tradicat!

Early on, I was focused on finding good deals for clothing for our expanding family.  This translated into a fair amount of time hunting for deals at garage sales and thrift stores.

Looking back, it was a lot of hours that perhaps could have been spent better.  Although, I thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of the hunt!

So for those mother's reading this blog, here's what I would tell a my younger self:


  • Start with a clear end goal in mind.  → Envision what you want your house to look like!
  • Make a list of what you need before you shop. → When that list is met ...


  • Don't let fear rule you.  → There will always be thrift stores to get something you've forgotten. → Stuff is necessary to raising a family but stuff can take over your life....stuff takes:
    • time to gather,
    • time to clean and store,
    • time to sort, organize & purge (when you get too much)
    • emotional energy in letting go!
  • Your House is NOT elastic!
  • The less you have + the less you feel you need (contentment) = greater freedom!

    Amen! And have one hobby, not several, because every hobby needs its stuff (tools) and you don't want that taking over the house. There's several good blogs on running a home and how to de-clutter (but the best idea is to not clutter in the first place).

I've used Edgar Schein's (RIP) organizational cultural model (link ) in my research  ... why not apply it in a comparison between the Catholic Organizational Culture - PRE and POST Second Vatican Culture? Of course, this will be from my own perspective, I'm certain that others will think differently. 😁 Also, apologies for a rather long article. Is it sinful to attend the Novus Ordo (New Mass) - Is it Sinful to Not Attend the Novus Ordo on Sunday?

+ JMJ A non-SSPX Catholic is upset over the SSPX statements on not attending the Novus Ordo Missae. Ladies and gentlemen, what the SSPX, or at least its website editor, is advocating is a mortal sin against the Third Commandment.  Unless the priest deviates from the language of the Sacramentary, the consecration, and thus the rest of Mass is to be considered valid.  No one may elect not to attend Mass simply because abuses are occurring therein.  Might I suggest that such absenteeism is its own abuse?  The Third Commandment binds under mortal sin.  Father So-And-So from the SSPX has no authority whatsoever to excuse attendance at Mass, be that Mass ever so unpalatable. Holy Ghost vs Holy Spirit

+ JMJ Something that always and I do mean always causes me to cringe interiourly is when non-Trad Catholics use the words "Holy Spirit" instead of "Holy Ghost". First, this is a natural response because of long usage of "Holy Ghost" as soon as I hear the word "Holy" in a prayer, my brain automatically is prepped to hear "Ghost" afterwards.  This creates a short period of interiour dissonance (discomfort). Now the question I would like to ponder today is whether or not there is a difference and whether or not there is a right way vs wrong way.
