Reference for First Friday and Saturday Devotions - Reblog 3

+ JMJ For reference I have created a summary Map for the First Friday (Sacred Heart) and Saturday Devotions (Immaculate Heart) devotion.  P^3 First Friday Overview In 1688, during an apparition to Saint Margaret Mary, Our Lord Jesus Christ promised the grace of the Holy Death to those who would receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of the month, nine months in a row. This was called The Great Promise. Reparatory Communions on the First Fridays of the month: The Twelfth Promise was inserted in full in the Bull of Canonization of St. Margaret Mary on May 13, 1920, by Pope Benedict XV. He thus wanted to encourage the practice of reparatory communions on the nine first Fridays of the month, in honour of the Sacred Heart. Promises I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life. I will establish peace in their homes. I will comfort them in all their afflictions. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death. I will bestow abundan...

Traditiones Custodes Part F - Apostolic Letter Desiderio desideravi ... The Echoes of TC? (Rorate-Caeli - An Admission of Failure)

+ JMJ   Pope Francis is a man of contradictions, speaking of accompaniment in one sentence while criticizing and chastising those who he claims to accompany. I wonder if the Church has suffered enough or if his successor will make Pope Francis look like a saint. P^3 Courtesy of Rorate Caeli     Apostolic Letter Desiderio desideravi : An Admission of Failure   Contemporary results of liturgical formation in the Novus Ordo, February 2022 (Holy Family, Inverness, Archdiocese of Chicago, USA) I do not see how it is possible to say that one recognizes the validity of the Council — though it amazes me that a Catholic might presume not to do so — and at the same time not accept the liturgical reform born out of Sacrosanctum Concilium ... ( Desiderio desideravi , 31) So writes Pope Francis in his Apostolic Letter Desiderio desideravi , released today, on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, which acts as yet another indicator - if any more were needed!...

Happy Anniversary!!! Ten Years of Tradicat!!!

+ JMJ   Just a short note to celebrate 10 years since the inauguration of this blog.  I started this blog after about a year of arguing with 'Resistors', being banned and realizing that my work would quickly get lost. So ... I started blogging and periodically cross-posting my articles on forums. All in all it has been a great experience and an outlet to work through issues that are important to me and I hope other Catholics. P^3

Navigating Catholic Life - Part 2 Being a Good Husband and Father (Reply to Murrax's Questions)

+ JMJ https://www.publicdomainpictures.net/en/free-download.php?image=ship-in-stormy-sea&id=175312   The Question   I received the following comment from Murrax on the 'unhinged' post: Hi Tradicat! I would like to know your perspective on how you think being a balanced traditional Catholic plays into family life, particularly being a good father and a good husband. I find that the best Catholic families are typically ones where there is balance , but finding that is hard. Some fathers are too strict and the children are either unbalanced or easily scandalized when they encounter the world and don't have the proper tools to deal with it. On the other hand, some are too liberal and the children and spouse sometimes end up worldly or give into the world entirely, sometimes leaving the faith . You mention the fostering of the spiritual life in yourself and those who you are responsible for. This prioritization of the spiritual life in the role of the fa...

Traditiones Custodes - A Deep Dive - Part E ... Communion of Faith or Government?

+ JMJ     So we have come to the conclusion.  Catholics are being asked to make a very difficult choice. It is a choice between the: Second Vatican Council's perceived teachings, a New Mass, New Sacraments (not extras but new liturgies) and a New Ecclesiology. and juxtaposition of the Teachings of the Church up to the Second Vatican Council, a Tridentine Mass, Sacraments and a pre-conciliar Ecclesiology. For those who have eyes to see the difference the choice is clear, hard because it requires sacrifice, but nonetheless the choice remains clear. P^3

Got COVID?

+ JMJ My test looked like the middle one    It's been a while since I wrote an article about COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 and I decided to write this because on my first post-COVID vacation, I caught it. I actually still 'have' it as I am now in my third day and I'm on the mend. As I lay in bed with the fever, headache, and pain (it seems that COVID wanted to remind me of old injuries); I thought about how I expected some of my harsher critics to react.  Here are my ruminations See the vaccine didn't work you caught covid!   I disagree ...  When my children caught what, based on symptoms, appeared to be COVID, I was able to help take care of them.  I did not get sick.  That was one of my motivations for taking the vaccine. It is known that the vaccines are about 90% effective in creating antibodies and that this immunity wanes over time. I had my shots over a year ago. So I was expecting to catch it at some point in time. The virus has mutated as t...

Unhinged Anonymous Poster(s) - Updated with Note

+ JMJ ***  Updated August 20, 2022 *** Since I turned off 'anonymous comments' the comm box has been quiet. No spam (periodically the blog gets targeted) and no unhinged comments.  It is sad that I needed to resort to this action as there are many good people who read, some of whom comment this blog. I invite good discussions and I may setup an email address. *** End Note ***  So ... an unhinged poster (maybe more than one) has been filling the comment box with drivel and not taken a hint that I: Will not follow them down rabbit holes,  want cogent rationally set out arguments, don't take kindly to name calling. In addition, I can't tell if there is one or more posters.  So ... As a result of the below rants, I am making changes to the blog settings.  Anonymous posting will be disabled.    If you want to post, then be brave and get a google account.  I have also taken the time to delete the offending / useless posts.
