The Key To Understanding: Numerators, Denominators and Context

+ JMJ Understanding in complex and complicated times is important.  If you don't understand the context then you haven't got enough information to make decisions.   ... or at least you can't make good decisions. So, let's get back to basics. Introduction Numerator / Denominator = Quotient (Remainder) In statistics, the denominator helps you to assess the value of the numerator, it provides context. A numerator without a denominator is just like a fact without context. There's no way of knowing how important or unimportant a number is without that context. Let's say someone says that one million people believe X.  The import of this number depends on the pool of people 'sampled'. One million people out of two or even ten million is quite significant, but out of a pool of one billion less so. That's the beauty of context. During the Pandemic people literally freaked out at some of the adverse event numbers.  They missed two important context setting n...

Young Man and Old Man - A Little Wisdom

+ JMJ "A young man works to make a living and an old man works to make a difference." Matt Carriker (Off the Ranch) In one of his last videos Matt Carriker passed on the above advice he received from an elderly gentleman.  The point was that when we're young we are on the upward slope of the hill.  Trying to make ends meet, keep life, family, work all together and not die young. Then you hit the edge of the plateau.  The making ends meet seems a little easier even as life and Providence throw you some curves in the road. That's when the opportunity comes to step back and make a difference. In what way to make a difference will be different for all of us ... but that is the opportunity.  Maybe you'll have a chance to help someone who's just treading water.  Maybe something smaller or bigger. Just step back and look at your life, your trajectory and try to determine what God want's next. P^3

News Roundup: June 11, 2025

+ JMJ While there is a lot happening in the world (i.e. Pope Leo XIV, Ukraine, Middle-East, Africa, USA vs Everyone Tradewar etc), nothing has really changed ... yet.  The following are my personal thoughts ... The Trade-War continues with Trump trying to apply his 'Soviet Style' ... win at all costs negotiation tactics that only work when you don't have or need an on going relationship with the other part don't work in State-to-State relations (see Forbes ). What Trump doesn't or won't realize is that the majority of  US citizens aren't like him. They have different priorities. Food, Clothing Shelter are obviously the foundation, but they want cheap goods. Otherwise, Walmart wouldn't be so successful.  End point, making basic products more expensive risks costing him the mid-term elections that always loom on the USA election cycle.  Hence the anti-DOGE budget. The Real Wars likewise continue around the world. Sure Ukraine is one of those pivotal co...
