For reference I have created a summary Map for the First Friday (Sacred Heart) and Saturday Devotions (Immaculate Heart) devotion.

First Friday

  • Overview

    • In 1688, during an apparition to Saint Margaret Mary, Our Lord Jesus Christ promised the grace of the Holy Death to those who would receive Holy Communion on the first Friday of the month, nine months in a row. This was called The Great Promise.

    • Reparatory Communions on the First Fridays of the month: The Twelfth Promise was inserted in full in the Bull of Canonization of St. Margaret Mary on May 13, 1920, by Pope Benedict XV. He thus wanted to encourage the practice of reparatory communions on the nine first Fridays of the month, in honour of the Sacred Heart.

  • Promises

    • I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.

    • I will establish peace in their homes.

    • I will comfort them in all their afflictions.

    • I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.

    • I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.

    • Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.

    • Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.

    • Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.

    • I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored.

    • I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.

    • Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart.

    • I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

  • Criteria

    • Receive Holy Communion

    • On nine consecutive First Fridays

    • Normally it is done with the intention of making reparation to the Sacred Heart

   

First Saturday

  • Overview

    • On December 10, 1925, our Blessed Mother again appeared to Lucy at Pontevedra, Spain. Sr. Lucy, while a Dorothean postulant, was in her cell when Our Lady appeared to her, placing one hand on Sr. Lucy’s shoulder and in the other hand showing her a heart surrounded by thorns. Next to the Blessed Virgin was the Child Jesus borne by a luminous cloud and He said to her:

    • Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.

    • Then the Most Blessed Virgin said:

      • Look, my daughter, at my Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console me and say that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the rosary, and keep me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the 15 mysteries of the rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.

  •    Promises

    • I (Blessed Virgin Mary) promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who,

  • Criteria

    • A confession of reparation within the eight days preceding or following communion;

    • The communion of reparation on the first Saturday;

    • The recitation of one set of mysteries of the rosary;

    • Meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary while keeping company with Our Lady for fifteen minutes.

    • On Five Consecutive First Saturdays

+ JMJ An aspect of becoming a TCatholic is realizing that some things that you thought were 'Catholic', really aren't. For example, communion in the hand, not kneeling to receive or during consecration. Don't believe me? Here's an EWTN article on the topic: In the Latin Church, however, kneeling is the sign of adoration for Christ who has just become present on the altar. This came about through the dogmatic development of Eucharistic theology in the West. To go back to the earlier practice in the West would be a sign of devolution of doctrine, and in fact, that is the way the devout faithful perceive efforts to change Latin practice, as a counter-sign of faith. For Eastern Catholics this is not a problem, since they have never inculturated the Latin way of expressing adoration. Becoming Traditional Catholic - Part IV Knowing The Catholic Truth

+ JMJ In my previous post, I discussed seeing things for what they are ... including the actions of Pope's. I know this is a hard pill to swallow, but it is necessary to have an objective measure by which to assess the actions of the Pope - even without a PhD in Theology and Philosophy. The objective measure is the Teaching of the Catholic Church. Hence, it is important to study to know your Faith. For undiluted instruction I recommend Catechism of the Council of Trent and Catechism Explained. This would serve as a foundation for understanding not only the crisis, but also recognizing error when it appears in front of you! Having said this I have two counsels to give: When something you see or hear 'feels' wrong and / or heretical, don't react right away.  Do some research to make certain.  The biggest problem in the last 50+ years, has been Popes that speak out of both sides of their mouthes.  One moment they speak as a 'Catholic', the nex...

Becoming Traditional Catholic Part I

+ JMJ It is a big step from the non-Traditional to Traditional Catholic World. First of all, the Trad world is much smaller, isolated and under siege. This leads to a number of interesting elements that a person making the transition needs to take into account. The Trad World Is Smaller It is a fact that in the states there are about 30,000 Traditional Catholics who support the SSPX and about 3,000 in Canada.  The other Traditionalit orders (FSSP, ICK, etc), I assume, are in the same ball park if not smaller. Let put that in perspective, in my area there are 270,000 non-Traditional Catholics. Consequently, aside from the larger centers,  a Traditional 'Parish' or Mass Centre will be 200 people or less. This has the advantage of being like an extended family and cozy. It has the disadvantage that any crazy 'uncles' in that family will be in plain sight. + JMJ My post about seeing things as they are  has drawn a fair amount of attention. A quick recap: Part: Outlined the isolation of Traditional Catholics Most non-cradle Traditional Catholics experienced an transitional moment when they realize that they've been tricked / lied to most of their Catholic lives by Popes, Bishops, Priests, Brothers, Nuns and other Catholics. Seeing things as they are.  For example: The Catholic Charismatic movement is anything but (ie it is really a protestant hook that the naive Catholics have inhaled).  Communion in the Hand (as practiced now - not as practiced in some placed early in the life of the Church) is protestant.  That removing the Filioque from the Creed is Schismatic. ... the list goes on. Thoughts on the Thoughts of a former SSPX priest

 + JMJ Well Gary Campbell, former SSPX Priest and now laicised has posted a new article on WherePeterIs. https://wherepeteris.com/thoughts-of-a-former-sspx-priest-on-the-july-1-consecrations/ These words stuck out: Heck, they have built a five-star hotel, wine bar, and Walmart on the opposite bank of the Rubicon! They are not in danger of entering a state of schism, for they are  already  in a state of schism. I believe he doth protest too much. All the actual facts indicate that the SSPX was not in a state of schism before July 1st and an examination of the decree of excommunication highlights the either ineptitude of those in charge or a desire to leave the barn door open. The chasm between an act of disobedience and act of schism remains just what is has always been - an inconvenient barrier that person(s) in Rome seek to bridge but appear incapable of succeeding.
