I've often been amused how Tom Clancy was able to write about key events or trouble spots - years in advance. For example the paracel island conflict.
There's also a lot of wisdom in his writing, which makes sense as he was a history teacher. The following bit comes from Patriot Games.
"Then how do are we supposed to solve the problem?[Of terrorists trying to destroy a society from within] ... "I guess maybe it comes down to justice. If people believe in their society, they don't break its rules. The trick's making them believe. John Patrick Ryan Speaking to Prince Charles - Patriot Games by Tom Clancy.
I feel this bit of wisdom applies well to the situation in the States and to a lesser degree in Canada.
The people are convinced to stop believing in their society and so they decide to tear it down (ie. the defund the police proposal).
Of course, people don't just stop believing in something, they switch beliefs to something else. Given the violence involved in the protests ("peaceful" and otherwise), it is obvious that they do believe that "might makes right".
... and the liberals will probably continue to let them "demonstrate" their power.
I suspect that, like Pontius Pilate, they will condemn innocent men and women for fear of the crowd.
Be wary my friends, because when a society is ruled by mob violence, anarchy is swiftly followed by tyranny.
