+ JMJ I suspected that I would end up posting something about the Canonizations during my 'penitential' break. Here is a good article on surviving the Canonizations. While the dogmatic fact that Canonizations are infallible is a theological opinion, it has a long history. So that Popes John XXIII and John Paul II are both in Heaven enjoying the beatific vision has been assured by the Church (although I haven't read the formula used ...) what is not assured is that their public example (kissing Korans etc ) is worthy of imitation. In the growing darkness before the October Synod, less us not despair. We have the promise of Christ that His Church will not fall before the Gates of Hell. The machinations of numerous 'bad' Popes and crises stand testimony to this promise. It is not for us to bemoan that such times have fallen upon the Church of Christ. It is up to us to decide what to do with the time allotted for us. How are you working for the Church...

+ JMJ While the infallibility of canonizations revolves around whether or not the beati enjoys the beatific vision, I anticipate the canonizations of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II to be used to 'canonize' their pontificates and the Second Vatican Council, in spite of what the Vatican stated. + JMJ Recently a branch of the 'resistance' referenced one of my articles (without directly responding to its contents) making the assertion that: No Canonical Agreement Prior to a Doctrinal Resolution” Is a Catholic Principle...“a canonical recognition cannot be had if it is not based on the Catholic Faith” In support of this assertion the author made a number of claims, one of which came from Satis Cognitum. I will respond to the non-response at a later time and in preparation, I read Satis Cognitum in its entirety (something that I suspect the author of the above article neglected to do). + JMJ Introduction Members of the Catholic Church are being subjected to an onslaught of ambiguous and confusing statements from the Pope. However, I have concluded that discussing these issues and positions would be of no avail without a grounding in Catholic principles, doctrine and dogma. The mere exposition of these may actually make a refutation unnecessary. + JMJ Reblogged / Updated: I found an mistake in one of the links, which has now been rectified. While following the comings and goings in the blogosphere (ie following the blogs that I link - but abstaining from commenting), I came across a couple of articles that I believe require some commentary - but not because of the contents but the references. I was reading the Remnant's latest online  article   and noticed the following reference: Eternal damnation remains a possibility, but we are not granted, without special divine revelation, the knowledge of whether or which human beings are effectively involved in it. I found the same reference in another  article  in reply to the 'radtrad' accusations by various online personalities.

+ JMJ This is  related  to Pope John Paul II's 'whether or which' humans are in Hell statement. I recently came across a theology blog via a search on Rahner's thesis that we can hope that all would be saved. + JMJ The situation of the Church today does bear a striking resemblance of the Arian Crisis. There are two key elements to note: The vast majority of the hierarchy and presumably the faithful were infected with the heresy. St. Athanasius never refused to return to his See when able. Communion in the hand as practiced in the Church today is a legalized abuse - an indult. It is also an indult that I firmly believe must be abolished in order to help recover a Catholic sense of respect for God and the Holy Eucharist. This link provides some useful information on this topic.

+ JMJ Unam Sanctam has an excellent article on Collegiality that with permission I have reproduced below. I mentioned earlier that Collegiality, from an organizational point of view, reduces the authority of the Church to committee-ism with its attendant problems. Such as a lethargy in responding to crises, lack of accountability, the dominance of 'lowest common denominator' or forcefully applied opinions. As such it is the bane of organizations when it is out of control. The adage 'after all is said and done, more is said than done' comes to mind. Looking at the state of authority in the Church, I believe that committee-ism is out of control. Has the SSPX Strayed from the Teaching of the Church and Archbishop Lefebvre? -A Layman's Thoughts- There have been a lot of wild accusations made about the SSPX and in particular Bishop Fellay. The chief of these is that the SSPX has abandoned the principles set down by Archbishop Lefebvre. This is a serious accusation as principles are the guides used to aid in decision making.  Bad principles will lead to bad decisions. One of the key principles that guides the SSPX happens to be an article in the Apostle's Creed: "I believe in the Holy, Catholic, Church". The Catholic Church is paralyzed by committeeism.  Also known as collegiality. The problem with committees is that no one person is responsible for bad decisions. No one's neck, so to speak, is on the line, so what happens is either: The lowest common denominator is used as a consensus point - eliminating all other options.  This would be akin to 'dumbing down' the issues in order to reach agreement.  The loudest more forceful are able to take control of the agenda (sound like Vatican II?) Here's an article that discusses this ecclesial form of committeeism that is paralyzing authority within the Church. Of course, paralysis is shacken off when it is necessary to ensure unquestioning acceptance of the Second Vatican Council for the sake of avoiding 'division'. P^3 Courtesy of SSPX.org

One of the travesties of this age is communion in the hand. Here is a timely reminder of why it is 'evil'. It is wide open to all manner of abuses. I've watched a mother receive communion, her toddler in tow, then take it back to the pew and share it with him like a cookie. At least four or five times a year, I have to stop someone who just takes the host and wanders away with it and ask them to consume it on the spot.  Once or twice a month I encounter the droppers. Many are well-intentioned folks who somewhere, somehow drop the host or it slides out of their hands and Jesus tumbles to the floor.  A couple times a year I get the take-out crowd. They receive the host properly, and then pull out a hanky and ask if they can take another one home to a sick relative.
