The Roman Rite - Old and New Don Pietro Leone - Rorate Caeli

+ JMJ The Mass is a key 'artifact' of the organizational culture of the Church. Mundabor http://mundabor.wordpress.com/2011/05/13/ From this perspective the Novus Ordo and the Tridentine Masses manifest two very different cultures. Some time ago Rorate published a series of articles  ( separate links below) studying the New vs Old (Tridentine) Mass. I believe that having an clear understanding of the differences and implications of the changes wrought by the infamous committee (consilium) is crucial to being able to foster an broad and deep perspective of this crisis of the Church. Doubts of the Society of St. Pius X About Beatifying Pope John Paul II

Courtesy of SSPXasia Doubts of the Society of St. Pius X About Beatifying Pope John Paul II Fr. Dominique Bourmaud, FSSPX May Day is a traditional day of rest to celebrate the feast of work, especially in Rome, where everybody, Communist or not, knows that San Giuseppe was born in Italy. There, many souls will flock to the Piazza San Pietro for another ceremony which was announced Urbi et Orbi, to celebrate another great worker, John Paul II. Although rumored in Roman circles, it has come as a surprise that Benedict XVI would proceed with the beatification of his predecessor on May 1st. The conciliar Church will gather all its most passionate adherents, with trumpets and organs, to put another halo around the head of their hero: “J. P. II, we love you!” “John Paul the Great,” “Santo subito,”

Advice on Surviving the Canonizations - The Remnant

+ JMJ I suspected that I would end up posting something about the Canonizations during my 'penitential' break. Here is a good article on surviving the Canonizations. While the dogmatic fact that Canonizations are infallible is a theological opinion, it has a long history. So that Popes John XXIII and John Paul II are both in Heaven enjoying the beatific vision has been assured by the Church (although I haven't read the formula used ...) what is not assured is that their public example (kissing Korans etc ) is worthy of imitation. In the growing darkness before the October Synod, less us not despair. We have the promise of Christ that His Church will not fall before the Gates of Hell. The machinations of numerous 'bad' Popes and crises stand testimony to this promise. It is not for us to bemoan that such times have fallen upon the Church of Christ. It is up to us to decide what to do with the time allotted for us. How are you working for the Church...

Forcing the Hand of God: Is Santo Subito a Good Idea? - The Remant

+ JMJ While the infallibility of canonizations revolves around whether or not the beati enjoys the beatific vision, I anticipate the canonizations of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II to be used to 'canonize' their pontificates and the Second Vatican Council, in spite of what the Vatican stated. Attached below is an excellent Remnant article by Father Celatus that will be fitting in the context of today's planned ceremony (which I pray will not occur). -Tradical Forcing the Hand of God: Is Santo Subito a Good Idea?  Featured Written by  Father Celatus courtesy of the remnant  ■ As one advocate for victims stated, “In his more than 25 years as the world’s most powerful religious figure, we can’t think of a single predatory priest or complicit bishop who experienced any consequences whatsoever for committing or concealing heinous child sex crimes. Did you hear what one English writer, Jerome K. Jerome, said to the other English writ...

Satis Cognitum and the SSPX

+ JMJ Recently a branch of the 'resistance' referenced one of my articles (without directly responding to its contents) making the assertion that: No Canonical Agreement Prior to a Doctrinal Resolution” Is a Catholic Principle...“a canonical recognition cannot be had if it is not based on the Catholic Faith” In support of this assertion the author made a number of claims, one of which came from Satis Cognitum. I will respond to the non-response at a later time and in preparation, I read Satis Cognitum in its entirety (something that I suspect the author of the above article neglected to do). This encyclical is now my second most favorite (Mystici Corporis is still #1) and a couple of points struck me as supporting the SSPX`s willingness to accept a canonical regularization if they were accepted "as they are". Under section 10 that explains the Church as a Divine Society, we find the following: For this reason, as the unity of the faith is of ne...

A Brochure on the Canonization of John Paul II - DICI

+ JMJ Courtesy of DICI A Brochure on the Canonization of John Paul II 11-04-2014 Filed under  From Tradition ,  News Under the title  “A New Saint?”  a brochure edited by the Society of St. Pius X exposes the serious doubts raised by  John Paul II , using and developing the study by Fr.  Jean-Michel Gleize , professor of ecclesiology at the seminary of Econe, that was published in the January 2014 (#372) edition of Courrier de Rome . Here are a few significant extracts: “What exactly does the initiative of the Church represent when she canonizes saints? How does John Paul II’s life deserve to be the object of this choice? The answer to these questions should help men of good will to see clearly the meaning and consequences of this act announced by Pope Francis for Sunday, April 27, 2014.” For this is what a canonization implies:

A Look Back SUPERIOR GENERAL’S LETTER TO FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS #73 - October 2008

+ JMJ A friend recently brought this letter to my attention. One aspect that I found interesting was the reference to  Courtesy of SSPX.org SUPERIOR GENERAL’S LETTER TO FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS #73 Society of Saint Pius X Priorat Mariae Verkundigung Schloss Schwandegg Menzingen, ZG, CH-6313 SWITZERLAND Dear Friends and Benefactors, In this letter, I would have liked to give you first of all some news about the internal life of the Society. However, current events in the Church at large and especially concerning the developments in favor of Tradition compel us to dwell longer upon these topics of a more external nature, because of their importance. Once again, it seems to us necessary to tackle this subject, so as to express as clearly as possible something which might have caused some concern at the beginning of the summer.

A Look Back - LETTER TO FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS #72 April 2008

+ JMJ Sometimes it is helpful to look back down the road that has been trodden, before looking up the path to see what obstacles lay ahead. Suffice to say that the road ahead looks no less bumpy than the road that the SSPX has already travelled. P^3 Prayer Penance Patience SUPERIOR GENERAL’S LETTER TO FRIENDS AND BENEFACTORS #72 Society of Saint Pius X Priorat Mariae Verkundigung Schloss Schwandegg Menzingen, ZG, CH-6313 SWITZERLAND Dear Friends and Benefactors, The motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, which acknowledged that the Tridentine Mass was never abrogated, raises a certain number of questions concerning the future of the relations of the Society of St. Pius X with Rome.

Catholic Principles, Doctrine, and Dogma - Anchors for a Church Caught in a Tempest

+ JMJ Introduction Members of the Catholic Church are being subjected to an onslaught of ambiguous and confusing statements from the Pope. However, I have concluded that discussing these issues and positions would be of no avail without a grounding in Catholic principles, doctrine and dogma. The mere exposition of these may actually make a refutation unnecessary. When it comes to doctrine, I think the following are key to understanding : Indefectibility Infallibility Marks and Aspects of the Church Membership in the Church Obedience

Universal Salvation and Pope John Paul II - Updated

+ JMJ Reblogged / Updated: I found an mistake in one of the links, which has now been rectified. While following the comings and goings in the blogosphere (ie following the blogs that I link - but abstaining from commenting), I came across a couple of articles that I believe require some commentary - but not because of the contents but the references. I was reading the Remnant's latest online  article   and noticed the following reference: Eternal damnation remains a possibility, but we are not granted, without special divine revelation, the knowledge of whether or which human beings are effectively involved in it. I found the same reference in another  article  in reply to the 'radtrad' accusations by various online personalities.

Will all be saved? Will any be saved?

+ JMJ This is  related  to Pope John Paul II's 'whether or which' humans are in Hell statement. I recently came across a theology blog via a search on Rahner's thesis that we can hope that all would be saved. I have added the blog to my blog roll as it has some crystal clear explanations about the membership in the Church etc. P^3 Prayer Penance Patience

Saint Athanasius - The True Upholder of Tradition - SSPXasia - Apologia Pro Marcel Lefebvre

+ JMJ The situation of the Church today does bear a striking resemblance of the Arian Crisis. There are two key elements to note: The vast majority of the hierarchy and presumably the faithful were infected with the heresy. St. Athanasius never refused to return to his See when able. P^3 Prayer Penance Patience Courtesy of SSPXasia Appendix I What happened over 1600 years ago is repeating itself today, but with two or three differences: Alexandria is the whole Universal Church, the stability of which is being shaken, and what was undertaken at that time by means of physical force and cruelty is now being transferred to a different level. Exile is replaced by banishment into the silence of being ignored; killing, by assassination of character. Mgr. Rudolf Graber, Bishop of Regensburg, Athanasius and the Church of Our Times,  p. 23.

Communion in the Hand - Articles

Communion in the hand as practiced in the Church today is a legalized abuse - an indult. It is also an indult that I firmly believe must be abolished in order to help recover a Catholic sense of respect for God and the Holy Eucharist. This link provides some useful information on this topic.

Collegiality: The Church's Pandora's Box - Unam Sanctam Catholicam

+ JMJ Unam Sanctam has an excellent article on Collegiality that with permission I have reproduced below. I mentioned earlier that Collegiality, from an organizational point of view, reduces the authority of the Church to committee-ism with its attendant problems. Such as a lethargy in responding to crises, lack of accountability, the dominance of 'lowest common denominator' or forcefully applied opinions. As such it is the bane of organizations when it is out of control. The adage 'after all is said and done, more is said than done' comes to mind. Looking at the state of authority in the Church, I believe that committee-ism is out of control. P^3 Prayer Penance Patience   Courtesy of Unam Sanctam Collegiality: The Church's Pandora's Box The issue of episcopal collegiality is one of the most misunderstood teachings of the Second Vatican Council. It is hard for many to Catholics understand why this questio...

Bishop Fellay – The Church and the Society of St. Pius X – News - DICI

+ JMJ The 'latest' news from Bishop Fellay concerning relations with Rome etc. P^3 Prayer Penance Patience Courtesy of DICI Bishop Fellay – The Church and the Society of St. Pius X – News 10-04-2014    Published in “Le Rocher c’est le Christ” (The Rock Is Christ), #88, April-May 2014  “We Must Care for Souls” During his visit to Oensigen on January 20, 2014, we were able to hear what Bishop Fellay had to say on the current questions concerning the Church and the Society. Le Rocher: Your Excellency, in this war for souls that our Society has been waging for over forty years, what is our relationship with this Church that no longer seems to take this combat seriously; what can we do with the progressivists? Bishop Fellay:  To tell the truth, we cannot do much. For now, we manage here and there to obtain permission to say a Mass in a church, but not much more. We will never be able to agree with the real progressivists. But not every...

Has the SSPX Strayed from the Teaching of the Church and Archbishop Lefebvre?

Has the SSPX Strayed from the Teaching of the Church and Archbishop Lefebvre? -A Layman's Thoughts- There have been a lot of wild accusations made about the SSPX and in particular Bishop Fellay. The chief of these is that the SSPX has abandoned the principles set down by Archbishop Lefebvre. This is a serious accusation as principles are the guides used to aid in decision making.  Bad principles will lead to bad decisions. One of the key principles that guides the SSPX happens to be an article in the Apostle's Creed: "I believe in the Holy, Catholic, Church". This article is so important that the authors of the Catechism of Trent wrote: Since, therefore, it is impossible that anyone be infected with the contagion of heresy, so long as he holds what this Article proposes to be believed, let pastors use every diligence that the faithful, having known this mystery and guarded against the wiles of Satan, may persevere in the true faith. Words tha...

Collegiality - SSPX.org

The Catholic Church is paralyzed by committeeism.  Also known as collegiality. The problem with committees is that no one person is responsible for bad decisions. No one's neck, so to speak, is on the line, so what happens is either: The lowest common denominator is used as a consensus point - eliminating all other options.  This would be akin to 'dumbing down' the issues in order to reach agreement.  The loudest more forceful are able to take control of the agenda (sound like Vatican II?) Here's an article that discusses this ecclesial form of committeeism that is paralyzing authority within the Church. Of course, paralysis is shacken off when it is necessary to ensure unquestioning acceptance of the Second Vatican Council for the sake of avoiding 'division'. P^3 Courtesy of SSPX.org

Communion in the Hand

One of the travesties of this age is communion in the hand. Here is a timely reminder of why it is 'evil'. P^3 Courtesy of LMS Travails of Communion in the Hand This blog post is too good to miss: an American deacon, Greg Kandra recants his support for Communion standing and in the hand. It is wide open to all manner of abuses. I've watched a mother receive communion, her toddler in tow, then take it back to the pew and share it with him like a cookie. At least four or five times a year, I have to stop someone who just takes the host and wanders away with it and ask them to consume it on the spot.  Once or twice a month I encounter the droppers. Many are well-intentioned folks who somewhere, somehow drop the host or it slides out of their hands and Jesus tumbles to the floor.  A couple times a year I get the take-out crowd. They receive the host properly, and then pull out a hanky and ask if they can take another one home to a sick relative. Go...
